COLWOOD – General Manager Fred Jenner is charged about the performance of Jenner Chevrolet Buick GMC EV, as for the past three years, the dealership has been the number one General Motors Electric Vehicle dealer in B.C.
“We take a lot of pride in the fact,” says Jenner. “The Chevrolet Bolt EV has been our best-selling EV over that time, counting for about 30 percent of our Total New Vehicle Sales in 2023.
“This year, we added the GMC HummerEV’s and Chevrolet BlazerEV to our All Electric lineup. And we’re not stopping there: The Chevrolet EquinoxEV has started production and will be on our lot later this year. The Chevrolet SilveradoEV and GMC SierraEV will also be here in the not too distant future.”
Jenner says the dealership has added 9 Level 2 chargers and 1 Level 3 chargers for sales and service customers to use at no charge.
“Victoria and the surrounding area is the perfect market for Electric Vehicles,” he states. “Our climate, driving conditions and the fact that we are on an island, make driving an EV as a daily driver the ideal option for many Victorians.”
The dealership is more than EVs, though, he adds.
“We have a full slate of small to extra-large Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and mid-size and full-sized pickup trucks to meet all of our customers’ non-electric needs. We have a Business Fleet and Lease Manager here, Jason Podann, to look after all of those business needs when it comes to vehicles.
Fred has worked at the dealership since the late 1980’s as a wash kid, parts driver, sales manager and now General Manager, and he is the third generation Jenner to run a GM dealership, as his father Jack owned the location since 1981, and before that, his grandfather F.T. Jenner ran Jenner Motors in Edmonton, Alberta in the 1950’s, 1960’ and 1970’s.
Jenner Chevrolet had its share of bumps during the Covid pandemic, but still managed steady growth since.
“The strength of the dealership has been on the backs of our compact SUV’s, mid and full-size pick-ups and our EV’s,” he explains. “We expect that growth to continue as our economy bounces back. Our service department continues to be a backbone of our success looking after all customer’s needs for maintaining and repairing their vehicles. We know that’s the challenging part of owning a vehicle, so we try our best to get your vehicle up and running and back to them as fast as we can.
“Greater Victoria and our community have been amazing to us and we are very thankful for all the support we’ve been given by our customers. We know we aren’t perfect, but we learn and we get better every day. As we love to say, we are either Winning or Learning.”
Jenner credits much of the success of the dealership to their team members.
“As we have always said, our strength has been our staff and our involvement in the community, specifically with youth sports,” he notes, adding they have sponsored youth lacrosse, the junior and senior Victoria Shamrocks, and the BC Hockey League’s Victoria Grizzlies, and numerous other youth sports organizations. “We have many staff members that have been with us well over 25 years and one has been with us since 1981, so we take pride in our people, and they take pride in looking after our customers. Without them and their support we wouldn’t be as successful as we are. We’ve been extremely lucky in having staff members that take as much pride in the Jenner name as we do.”
