PORT ALBERNI – The San Group, which operates a lumber mill in Port Alberni, has been named one of three finalists in the Manufactured Products category of the annual B.C. Export Awards.
San Group, which has its head office in Langley, is up for the award against Cellular Robotics of Burnaby and Primacoustic of Port Coquitlam.
The award winners will be announced November 19 at Vancouver’s Terminal City Club. There are three other categories, including Professional Services, Advanced Technology and Emerging Exporter, the latter of which includes The Very Good Food Company of Victoria.
Since is conception in 1982, the BC Export Awards has recognized more than 300 companies in the province that serve international markets, reflecting the growth and diversity of B.C.’s economy.
The San Group ships its product to over 27 countries throughout the world.
The nomination is the latest in a string of good news from the company, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tseshaht First Nation recently, and announced they will be making a further $100 million investment in Port Alberni, as well as plans for a major residential neighborhood development.
The San Group is also investigating opportunities in northwest B.C. to expand their operations, which already employ over 400 workers.
