NANAIMO – Parkland Corporation is proud of its BOLD behavior, particularly when it comes to the company’s safety for employees, and the products and services it offers.
Dave Young, General Manager for Pacific Region for Commercial, points out that BOLD is an acronym for: Build. Own. Lead. Deliver.
“That’s what our team continues to focus on as we move forward,” notes Young, who explains that Parkland, which began in 1969 as a single gas station delivery truck in Red Deer, Alberta, is now an umbrellas which includes Columbia Fuels, which it bought in 2009, and Chevron’s downstream assets with 4,000 employees in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, with 20 billion liters in annual sales.
“My focus is on commercial, and to make sure we look after safety, our people, our customers and the environment,” he adds.
Parkland’s headquarters are in Calgary, although they have local and regional offices throughout the regions it serves. Young oversees their Pacific Region, which covers from Victoria to Prince Rupert, with 9 branches, 44 trucks and over 130 employees.
Columbia Fuels and Chevron commercial card locks supply fuels for trucks and vehicles, and Columbia Fuels continues to serve customers for home heating products.
“We provide fuel for the transportation industry through our card lock network, and we deliver fuel home heating fuel and propane as well,” Young states. “We have contractors that work with us, and we serve BC Ferries, BC Transit, Translink and a number of municipalities. We also work with Western Forest Products through our Chevron delivery network.
Along with that, Parkland is investing heavily in non-fossil fuels.
“Even though we are a fuel, propane and lubricant distribution company, Parkland is transferring into an energy corporation,” Young explains. “We’re trying to be at the forefront of electrification, and we’re building the first electric fuel fueling station, where it will be all electric charging.
“The business is investing capital to install electric chargers from Calgary to Vancouver at a certain number of our Chevron stations, so that people driving their electric cars from there to here know they can get there,” he adds.
Parkland/Columbia Fuels make significant investments in all the communities it serves, particularly with sports sponsorship.
“We try and do something with all of that,” Young notes. “We also have the Parkland pledge, where our employees can donate to their charity of choice and the company puts in cash and volunteer contributions to match that.”
