NANAIMO – Wide, long and tall truck loads aren’t able to move along Vancouver Island highways and roads without the assistance of the BC Pro Pilot Truck company.

Owner Geoff McInerney and his team drive vehicles before and after trucks carrying oversized equipment and even houses, ensuring safe passage on the road during the journey to their final destination. He started the company in 2012.

“It’s a full-service pilot car business including certified traffic control and logistics,” McInerney states. “We are equipped to reliably and safely service the trucking industry, moving oversized loads on highways secondary and industrial roads.”

BC Pro Pilot Truck has four company trucks that operate out of Nanaimo and Courtenay, and they also service Victoria and handle most of the major oversized loads arriving on Vancouver Island via ferry and barge. They also have partnerships with other pilot car companies that allow them to work for clients across the province and country. The variety and scope of the projects they assist with are mind boggling.

“The largest move we’ve done is a 34 foot wide house for Nickel Brothers,” he recalls. “We just helped move a transformer to Port Renfrew that was 130 feet long. That was an overweight project (245,000 pounds), but they had to put so many wheels underneath to make the drive legal, so it was very long,” he adds.

“We’ve moved 100-foot bridge beams out to Tofino. Projects like those have steerable dollies that sit underneath the bridge beam at the back where another driver sits and steers the load”.

Modular Housing projects as big as apartment buildings have become a big part of the business, McInerney points out that BC Pro Pilot Truck is a full-service company that takes care of clients from start to finish.

“We love the huge jobs, but we also like the small jobs, too,” he adds. “Some customers want us to help them move boats, excavators, all types of things. And we take care of everyone the same.”

BC Pro Pilot Truck employees are Traffic Control Certified, and the company has been accident free since its inception 10 years ago.

“Safety is what our whole business is about – keeping the general public safe, as well as the load, of course.
