PRINCE GEORGE – Long-time Canadian television personality Michael Landsberg will headline the fourth annual University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018.
The host of Canada’s longest-running TV sports talk show, Off The Record, Landsberg’s brash and witty style is sure to create a memorable morning at the fundraising event at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.
Not one to shy away from anything, Landsberg talks frankly about mental health – and specifically, his own struggle with depression – and urges others to do the same.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Michael Landsberg, as he shares his important message at the Legacy Breakfast,” says UNBC Director of Athletics/Recreation, Loralyn Murdoch. “Every year, this event grows before our eyes, and has quickly become a hugely anticipated day in Prince George.”
In its three-year history, the Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast has raised more than $140,000 for UNBC student-athletes.
“Our student-athletes are outstanding examples of next-generation at UNBC,” says Murdoch. “The Legacy Breakfast is a huge fundraiser for our Athletics program. One hundred per cent of proceeds goes towards scholarships and bursaries for Timberwolves athletes.”
For the fourth consecutive year, Canadian Tire will be the presenting sponsor.
Landsberg joins an increasingly impressive list of keynote speakers for the Legacy Breakfast. The inaugural event in 2015 welcomed five-time Olympic medallist Hayley Wickenheiser. In 2016, Canadian Football Hall of Famer Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons wowed the crowd. In February of 2017, Canadian hockey legend Theo Fleury created an incredible morning with his stories of perseverance.
Landsberg has been with TSN since the network’s inception in 1984. He hosted Off the Record from its debut in September 1997. Twice nominated for the Gemini Award for Best Host or Interviewer in a Sports Program or Sportscast, Landsberg was the Whistler Host for Olympic Daytime on CTV during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. During the London 2012 Olympic Games, he anchored TSN’s Olympic Daytime.
Landsberg speaks publicly about his personal battle with depression and considers his ability to help reduce the stigma of mental illness as his most important professional calling. He has been an ambassador for Bell Let’s Talk, an initiative focused on raising awareness and encouraging dialogue about mental health, since it launched in 2011.
Tickets are $90 for an individual seat, or $900 for a table of eight. Other ticketing options are also available. The doors open at 6:45AM and the breakfast begins at 7AM.
