PRINCE GEORGE – Having a company openly supporting having women in leadership roles is an important part of having more females in a traditionally male dominated industry like construction.

Bryant Electric Ltd., which has offices in Prince George and Terrace, has done just that, as Operations and Finance Manager/CFO Sarah Bryant explains.

“Construction has typically been a male dominated industry, but I have seen how that has been changing, and I have had role models that have challenged that narrative,” she states. “I think it’s important to have a company like Bryant Electric that supports women in leadership roles.  When companies create environments where women feel supported, trusted with responsibilities and encouraged it strengthens not just the individuals but the entire company and construction industry.”

Sarah was a finalist for the Northern Regional Construction Association (NRCA) Woman of the Year award, and the company was glowing in its praise of her work within the firm. A third-generation family owner at Bryant Electric, Sarah is the granddaughter of company founder Glen Bryant, who founded the company in 1960, and the daughter of former owners Gary and Sylvia Bryant

Today, the electrical contractor offers a comprehensive array of services including fiber optic and fire alarm installations, commercial HVAC controls, and general electrical services for the industrial and residential sectors.

Sarah began working at Bryant Electric in 2004 in a part-time role as an assistant. While her initial responsibilities were administrative, through hands-on experience and a strong work ethic, her responsibilities expanded naturally over time, eventually leading her into a senior leadership role.

Beyond her financial leadership, Sarah has played a significant role in strengthening Bryant Electric’s internal foundation. She was heavily involved in the development of the company’s safety manual and operations manual—key documents that support consistent practices, safer job sites, and a strong organizational culture. Her attention to detail and insistence on doing things correctly have had a lasting positive impact on employees and day-to-day operations.

Sarah has been actively involved with the BC Construction Association (BCCA) including serving as a past mentor in the Train the Trainer program. In addition, she currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Employees Benefit Trust.

BCCA President Chris Atchison states that her work within the BCCA on the Employees Benefit Trust in particular has benefited construction workers and their families throughout the province.

“In this environment, the stakes are high with fiduciary responsibility, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability being critical,” he observes. “Sarah approaches this work with a level of precision, preparedness, and ethical clarity that is both rare and deeply valued. Her contributions strengthen not only the Trust, but the confidence that our industry places in it.

“Beyond formal roles, Sarah is a quiet but powerful advocate for women in construction. By thriving in senior financial and governance leadership in a multi-generational electrical contracting firm and doing so with competence, humility, and consistency she sends a powerful message to young women: there is a place for you here, at every level of this industry. Representation matters, but so does excellence, and Sarah delivers both.”

Arthur Chung of the BCCA echoes his sentiments, adding “she contributes meaningfully to the governance and oversight that support thousands of construction workers and their families across B.C. Her perspective is thoughtful, principled, and always grounded in the best interests of plan members and the industry.

“Sarah is a precise, thoughtful, and genuinely caring leader whose influence elevates not only her own success, but the success of those around her. She is an outstanding role model for her daughters, for women entering the construction industry, and for business leaders alike. Sarah exemplifies the professionalism, dedication, and quiet leadership that define a true Woman in Construction of the Year.”
