North Island builds are advancing across institutional and healthcare projects, with facilities moving through permitting, design completion, and pre-construction toward 2026 starts.

Quamichan Lake, a key rowing venue, is set to anchor Rowing Canada’s future national training facility.

Project: Construction of a permanent national training facility for Rowing Canada at Quamichan Lake, including approximately 6,100 sf pre-fabricated boathouse, gym, and office space to support high-performance training.

Stage: Building Permit Application – submitted March/26, supported by REDIP grant funding, approved April/24, positioning the project for near-term construction.

Project: A new 2,040 sf fire hall at Mount Washington, expanding emergency response capacity with a purpose-built facility on the former Vancouver Island Mountain Centre site.

Stage: Working Drawings – underway for a $1.5M project with construction start targeted for May/26. Construction management was awarded November/25, following site acquisition earlier in 2025 and prior grant-supported approvals.

Project: Comprehensive upgrades to Port Hardy General Hospital, including emergency department expansion, new long-term care rooms, culturally safe care spaces, maternity and laboratory improvements, and expanded support and parking infrastructure.

Stage: Working Drawings – complete for a $45M project, with a call for construction management anticipated and funding approval announced March/26. Development permit approved August/25, with construction start targeted for June/26 and completion planned for October/29.
