VICTORIA – Back in December I was fretting somewhat about getting our in-person events confirmed for January. As you know, I need not have worried. After two in-person events in December, we had to move back to online events in January due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Fast forward to March, and we’re back to in-person events, still with arrangements to keep everyone safe, and still always with an eye to having to pivot once again, especially as we move into the autumn. Having to change, and change again, is an experience we all now share.
After two years of COVID restrictions, I have been seeing a lot of interest in people making in-person connections. I had a lovely conversation the other day with someone who is trying to find the community connections that work best for her interests and her circumstances. There are a number of great organizations in the WestShore and beyond which can help you with this. The Rotary Club of the West Shore meets every Friday and offers numerous volunteer opportunities to support charities both locally and globally. The Westshore Women’s Business Network hold regular meetings or events, as does Your Entrepreneurial Society (YES), Think Local First, Orbus Business Networks and BNI West Shore. You can connect with all of these and your closest chamber via the Small Business Resources section of our website at westshore.bc.ca
In addition to the WestShore Chamber there are four other Chambers on southern Vancouver Island, each with its own geographic area and focus. It’s a great time to reach out to your local chamber! At the WestShore Chamber, we actively encourage you to join the organization that is the best fit for you. You are always very welcome to try before you buy with us, by coming along to one of our events with no expectation or obligation.
Both current and prospective members are welcome to join us at our next Meet n’ Eat, which is planned for April 20th at the Langford Legion. Our Coffee Talk events typically take place on the last Tuesday of the month starting at 8:00 am, and if you are interested in attending as a guest, please give us a call at 250-478-1130.
Julie Lawlor is Executive Director at the WestShore Chamber of Commerce.
