Update: Covid-19 And BC’s Construction Industry

August 12, 2021

BRITISH COLUMBIA – The Safe Screen BC program has opened for employer enrollment.  This is a COVID-19 screening initiative of the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Provincial Health Services Authority and the Business Council of BC.

Enrolled businesses will get access to rapid antigen tests and have the ability to set up onsite rapid COVID-19 workplace screenings for their employees, even if they are asymptomatic.

BC faces a rising case count driven by the Delta variant of COVID-19, which is far more transmissible and likely to be fatal to those at risk, so rapid screening will be an important tool in our ongoing battle against this virus.  Even those fully vaccinated can carry the new variants and transmit them to others.

Workplace screening is another protection for your employees and their families. Rapid testing will help keep workplaces safe and reduce the chances of outbreaks and site closures.

Companies who register will receive the toolkits, resources and guidance needed to access the test and set them up onsite.

FEE
Participating employers will be asked to contribute a fee to cover the cost of services, but the tests themselves will be provided at no cost. The amount of the services fee isn’t stated on the program website at this time, and it’s not clear if the fee is optional or mandatory.

BCCA has reached out for more information and has been advised that the fee structure will be based on employer size and that details are being finalized. We will provide an update when available.
