VICTORIA – United Way Southern Vancouver Island (UWSVI) opened the annual process for local social service agencies to apply for grants.
The granting process is the culmination of UWSVI’s fundraising work: successful applicants receive funding from the pool of donations raised by the organization in the previous year.
This year, UWSVI invites local social service charities to apply for two different grants:
- UWSVI Programs and Services Grant
- Collective Impact, Collaboration, and Innovation Grant
The Programs and Services Grant is familiar to most applicants from previous years. This is the grant UWSVI annually awards to programs and services that primarily focus on the immediate needs of populations in UWSVI’s three areas of action: families, seniors, and people with mental health and addictions challenges – all critical issues in Southern Vancouver Island.
The Collective Impact, Collaboration, and Innovation Grant is new this year. As above, successful grant applicants will focus on the needs of priority populations in the three areas of action.
The Collective Impact, Collaboration, and Innovation Grant is intended for groups of organizations that will be working together. Successful applicants will be collaborating on strategic initiatives that create systemic change and collective impact, leading to social progress.
Eligible, registered charities in good standing are invited to apply for funding for either grant. Interested applicants should review grant descriptions and submission details on UWSVI’s funding webpage: uwsvi.ca/what-we-do/funding.
Applicants to the Programs and Services Grant must submit their applications by February 16, 2024.
Applicants to the Collective Impact, Collaboration, and Innovation Grant must submit a letter of intent by January 22, 2024; selected agencies will be invited to complete an online application, due February 16, 2024.
Funding for both grants is for one year, beginning April 1, 2024, and ending March 31, 2025. UWSVI’s application criteria prioritize programs and services that aim to reduce the impact of poverty on people in the region.
Last year (for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2023, and ending March 31, 2024), UWSVI awarded grants to 63 agencies and 77 programs, plus 5 Youth in Action micro-grants.
