Tru Value Foods Receives Family Business Award

January 4, 2017

VICTORIA – The Family Business Association (FBA) Vancouver Island has recently announced that Dean Clarke, Partner in Business Development of Tru Value Foods, will receive the 2017 Family Business Excellence (FBE) Award on February 9th at a gala held at the Beach House Restaurant in Victoria. Dodds Furniture and Prince of Whales Whale Watching were award finalists.

The Award is given annually by FBA to recognize, celebrate and promote achievements of Vancouver Island family businesses and the considerable contribution they make to both their local communities and our national economy.

Dean Clarke became a partner of Tru Value Foods in 2005 with the addition of their first Quadra Island BC location in Heriot Bay. While studying for his Bachelor of Commerce, Brett Clarke (Son), took the spring and summer month opportunities to work in the stores and apply his ongoing learning; ultimately working at three locations: Heriot Bay, Brentwood, and Mayne Island. Dean’s other sons, Ryan Clarke and Owen Clarke also contributed to the business, Ryan working at the Brentwood location and Owen at Cordova Bay.

Today Dean’s involvement has grown in both shareholding and operational involvement, currently fulfilling a business development role in the company. Brett has taken on his own shareholding position and leveraging his education and company knowledge has taken responsibility for Financial Management and many business functions of Tru Value Foods.

Tru Value Foods seeks to build and strengthen every community they are part of, starting with their family. Keeping business and families connected to the communities that they serve and are members of is a central value. In 2001 they became part of the spirit board program that supports local and regional non-for-profit organizations by giving back 1% of revenue to these organizations as directed by their customers.

With the continued development of the program and the entrance into new markets they have been able to expand the scope of this program which now directs over $120,000 annually to 100+ groups in the communities they serve.

Past award recipients include: Wilson’s Transportation; The Canada Homestay Network; Capital Iron; Country Grocer; McCall Gardens; Pacific Sands Resort; Robinson’s Outdoor Store; Monk Office and Accent Inns.
