PARKSVILLE – Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort, a beloved destination for 40-plus years, recently received the award of Hospitality/Tourism Business of the Year at the 23rd Annual MNP LLP Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards on February 1.
This award highlights the resort’s recent advancements and commitment to excellence.
The resort just completed an extensive $8.5 million renovation of its 53 Texada building guestrooms, elevating the guest experience.
Marketing Manager, Suzy Kirkland, elaborates, “We have significantly enhanced Texada’s guestrooms and facilities, introducing contemporary-style furniture, adding air conditioning systems, and overhauling both the interior and exterior to maximize the breathtaking ocean views.”
A standout feature of the resort is the Grotto Spa, recently named Canada’s #1 Spa by Spas of America. The spa underwent a transformative refurbishment, including new locker rooms, updated decor, and the addition of four cedar barrel saunas on a garden patio, complete with outdoor showers, fire tables, and a selection of beverages and light snacks.
“The spa refresh is a fantastic complement for those hosting corporate retreats, local visitors, and guests seeking personal or shared rejuvenation,” Kirkland adds.
General Manager Jim Hykaway shares his excitement about the Grotto Spa’s $2.5 million upgrade, particularly the cedar barrel saunas.
“These saunas offer a unique opportunity to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with nature,” he says. Hykaway further describes the Grotto as a multifaceted experience, inspired by global spa trends, aimed at enhancing the guest’s journey through a two-hour communal circuit that leverages the therapeutic elements of hot and cold, water, fresh air, and cozy fireside relaxation.
Along with the Spa, the Treetop Tapas Restaurant kitchen also got a major renovation with a goal to ultimately enhance the guest’s experience. A new chef and his exciting new tasting menu will also be launched with the reopening of the restaurant in early March.
Looking ahead, the resort plans to renovate its cottages starting next year and they will be renovated to the same level as the recent renovations of the three ocean view buildings.
Tigh-Na-Mara’s history dates back to 1981 perched on the bluff overlooking the Salish Sea and close to Rathtrevor Beach, making it a long-standing favorite for families, couples, and corporate clients.
Kirkland notes, “Many of our guests, some visiting for over 30 years, share deep connections with the resort, from childhood vacations to weddings and conferences.”
Tigh-Na-Mara is the largest resort conference center north of Victoria and also boasts an ex-tensive recreation program suitable for all ages.
“The resort offers a plethora of on-site activities and off-site adventures, making it an ideal location for family bonding, corporate events, or a tranquil retreat in nature,” says Kirkland.
Kirkland fondly recounts testimonials from long-time guests, illustrating the resort’s enduring appeal. A guest shares, “I’ve been visiting Tigh-Na-Mara for 30 years. It’s been wonderful watching it evolve from cabins to a spa resort. I fondly remember clam digging on the beach with my daughter, who now continues the tradition with her family.”
Tigh-Na-Mara’s commitment to continual improvement and its ability to create lasting memories for its guests are key reasons for its enduring popularity and recent recognition.
