Sooke Council has directed staff to prepare an updated Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw for readings at the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, March 24, 2025. The proposed update reflects a municipal service tax increase of $19.68 per month ($236.22 per year or 15.29%) for the average residential property, based on a home value of $770,284 (BC Assessment, 2025).

To restore damaged salt-marsh and eelgrass habitat, the Port Renfrew-based Pacheedaht First Nation is getting $2.3 million over three years. This will involve restoring habitat at three locations in the Gordon and San Juan River estuaries to restore near-shore ecosystems. 

Crystal Pool will be replaced on the same site by the City of Victoria with a new facility costing $209.2 million.

Fol Epi Bakery, located near Dockside Green, has been acquired by Caffe Fantastico‘s owners, Ryan and Kristy Taylor. 

Red Fish Blue Fish has reopened for the season and is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Phase 1 of the new Belleville Terminal project in Victoria’s Inner Harbour has been completed, according to the Ministry of Transportation’s announcement on March 13. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in spring of 2025.

Sam Harris and Vincent Vanderheide, co-owners of Cafe Brio, will shortly take over Brasserie L’Ecole, a much-loved French restaurant in downtown Victoria that has been around for 23 years. They are part of the Vinuel Restaurant Group. 

A new apartment complex called The Grand and Fir is currently being constructed at 4 Mile Pub in View Royal. It is expected to be finished in the summer of 2026.

Cera Korean Tapas has reopened at a new location, previously occupied by Little Jumbo. The restaurant now features a fresh concept centred around tapas and shareable plates, blending the lively Korean drinking culture with high-quality, fresh food and cocktails. 

The city’s Sustainable Development Advisory Committee has advised council to refrain from approving the proposed 13- and 22-story residential towers on the land at Peatt and Sunderland roads for two mixed-use buildings until the Official Community Plan (OCP) is updated.

The Wain Park pickleball courts will be replaced by a new community meeting area, maybe with a basketball court and covered picnic tables, according to a vote by the North Saanich council.

The leadership team includes President Holly Courtright, Vice President Mark Eraut, Treasurer John Marshall, and Secretary Meagan Brame. The board also features Directors James Rogers, Jay Smith, Paul McGroarty, Murray Boyce, Jamie Ferguson, Martin Drews, and Danielle Smith.

The Township of Esquimalt is thinking of withdrawing the Phase 2 Bike Lane project from the 2025 Capital Spending list in order to pause its construction due to concerns expressed by the Chamber and Town Centre Businesses.
