SKYFIRE ENERGY EXPANDS SOLAR CAPABILITIES IN BC WITH HAKAI ENERGY SOLUTIONS ACQUISITION

January 16, 2026

BRITISH COLUMBIASkyFire Energy has expanded its renewable energy operations in British Columbia through the acquisition of Hakai Energy Solutions, a BC-based company specializing in residential, commercial, and remote off-grid solar energy systems.

The acquisition strengthens SkyFire Energy’s position as Western Canada’s leading employee-owned solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) provider. The company’s service footprint now spans Vancouver Island, coastal British Columbia, the Lower Mainland, and remote communities across the province.

Hakai Energy Solutions is known for delivering off-grid solar power and microgrid systems in challenging environments. Its expertise in remote energy systems complements SkyFire Energy’s existing work in residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar projects.

Combined, SkyFire Energy and Hakai Energy Solutions employ nearly 200 renewable energy professionals and employee-owners. The expanded organization provides services across residential solar and battery storage, commercial and industrial solar EPC, utility-scale solar and battery energy storage, large-scale off-grid and remote power systems, solar microgrids, and monitoring, operations, and maintenance services.

The acquisition also significantly expands SkyFire Energy’s presence on Vancouver Island and in remote regions of British Columbia, supporting stronger local service capacity and faster response times. By integrating Hakai’s off-grid and microgrid capabilities with SkyFire’s full-scale EPC and O&M services, clients gain access to a single provider for both grid-connected and off-grid renewable energy solutions.

“Hakai Energy Solutions has long been an admired leader in Western Canada. Their expertise in remote off-grid and microgrid systems perfectly complements SkyFire’s strengths across residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar. Together, we are building energy for good,” said David Vonesch, President and CEO of SkyFire Energy, in a recent press release.

SkyFire Energy is Canada’s largest employee-owned solar EPC, and employee ownership remains central to its operating model. The addition of Hakai Energy Solutions extends this structure into the Comox Valley and Victoria, reinforcing local decision-making and community-based energy development.

For clients and partners, the expanded organization offers broader warranty support, increased access to commercial and industrial battery energy storage systems, expanded on-grid and off-grid solutions, and the backing of a larger, technically focused renewable energy provider. SkyFire Energy will continue working alongside Hakai’s existing team, maintaining established local relationships while expanding access to future-ready solar and energy storage solutions.

With the addition of Hakai Energy Solutions, SkyFire Energy is positioned to deliver one of the most comprehensive portfolios of solar, battery energy storage, microgrid, and off-grid solutions in Western Canada as demand for resilient, clean energy continues to grow.
