SIDNEY – The Sidney Business Improvement Area Society (Sidney BIA) announced the receipt of a provincial grant for a permanent light installation in Downtown Sidney.
The Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) provides fully-funded provincial grants to support economic resilience, tourism, heritage, and urban and rural economic development projects in communities impacted by COVID-19.
This project aims to install permanent, energy-efficient LED string lights on commercial properties throughout the downtown business district. Local business, Light Right, will manage the implementation and maintenance of the lighting infrastructure.
Sidney is well-positioned to embrace modern light installations that will strengthen its long-term competitiveness as a tourism destination while contributing to the community’s overall well-being, making it a more attractive place to live, work, and visit.
The Sidney BIA’s application received an overwhelming amount of support from the business community through the online petition and written letters of support.
Morgan Shaw, Executive Director of the Sidney BIA, stated that “with COVID-19, placemaking within communities has become even more essential as cities and towns all over the world compete for remote workers. We are working to do our part to ensure Sidney continues to be a desirable place to live.”
This project will allow the community to connect with its small-town charm and continue toward a sustainable future as a desirable destination.
