VANCOUVER ISLAND – After many successful years designing award winning projects on the lower mainland, Shauna Root returned to her Vancouver Island roots two years ago with her interior design company, Root Interiors Ltd.

“I have a skill set that not everybody has in the mid-Island area, as I am an interior designer specializing in commercial spaces,” Shauna notes. “My career started with a focus on hotels and restaurants then gradually moved into designing offices. Initially upon relocating to the island, I worked on projects in the lower mainland while building connections on the island. Since then, I have started several projects in various parts of the island. Moving back here has been a great move for me.”

Shauna holds BID, RID IDIBC, and LEED AP® ID+C designations, and has been creating meaningful experiences for clients since 1996, working on projects of all sizes and scales. A part-time Interior Design instructor at BCIT, she holds a Bachelor of Interior Design Degree from the University of Manitoba School of Architecture and continues to enhance her knowledge with ongoing education in building codes, project management, and sustainability.

Shauna’s impressive resume includes being one of the designers on the spectacular Sparkling Hills Resort in Vernon, which features a stunning array of Swarovski crystals throughout the acclaimed mountaintop hotel resort and spa.

“It is satisfying to see a beautiful space at the end, but my favorite projects are when I really connect with the client and the team that is executing the project,” she says. “I really value my connections with people. After years in the corporate world, my aim is to foster authentic relationships with clients that are built with good communication.

“It is awesome when clients come back a second time,” she adds. “It reflects the trust I’ve earned by delivering outstanding results.”

Shauna explains the Root Interiors process begins with learning about her clients’ businesses and identifying goals for the project.

“We talk about budgets, because not all of us have millions of dollars to spend,” she observes. “We create as much impact in focused areas as possible. We make their products or services stand out.

“There’s a lot of information to be gathered before we start, through our pre-design and discovery process,” she notes.

“When we’re working with a business, it’s about finding out how employees and customers move through their space and efficiently planning circulation to support that flow.”

Root Interiors is all about listening to clients, and creating visions that reflects their brand.

“All my projects look different – I don’t have a signature style, as I’m trying to bring out the best of what my client is looking for,” she states.
