NANAIMORocky Point Engineering (RPE) has been involved in the building industry since 1997, on projects ranging from small-scale retrofits to new building design. Along the way, they’ve been building their own business, with eight offices stretching across the province.

Last July, RPE opened their eighth office in Smithers to serve northern BC. Their other locations include Nanaimo, Victoria, Vancouver, Langley, Kelowna, Kamloops and Nelson. Of their 105 staff members province wide, they employ 19 Professional Engineers, 25 registered EITs and 9 LEED® accredited professionals. RPE’s involvement in projects include PDR reports to post construction services, energy modelling and fire protection design services.

“Our professional staff are leaders in all sectors, and our innovative project services for Educa-tion, Civic, Industrial, Commercial, Healthcare, Indigenous, Multi Unit Development and Recreation facility clientele have afforded Rocky Point the position as the top Mechanical Engineering Consulting company in BC. Our team of sustainability consultants, mechanical engineers, technologists, and energy analysts is passionate about making a difference through honest, forward-thinking engineering that cares for our clients, communities and environment,” says President Richard Corra, a licensed Mechanical Engineer in BC and Alberta who joined the company in 2010.

“We apply our understanding of mechanical systems lifecycle, comfort, safety, and environmental impacts to deliver efficient electrification, eliminate emissions, and reduce energy consumption and operating costs in new construction, retrofit and expansion projects across British Columbia. We provide our clients with high-efficiency HVAC systems that use advanced technologies to optimize building performance, while providing optimal thermal comfort and indoor air quality for occupants.”

Recent projects in the education sector that resulted in a substantial reduction in green-house gas emissions to achieve greater than the 50 percent target or greater than the LEED Gold baseline include a net zero target building at Burnaby’s Stride Elementary School, as well as Moody Elementary School in Coquitlam, Glenmerry Elementary School in Kamloops and Cedar Hill Middle School in Victoria.

Other highlights include the Vanderhoof Cultural Centre culture/heritage project in northern BC, the Welcher Avenue affordable housing building in Port Coquitlam, and mass timber structures in Vancouver (315 Main and Cordova), the 60,000 square foot BKF Aerospace Centre For Excellence in Kelowna, which won the Canadian Wood Council’s 2022-23 Wood Design & Building Award, and the Williams Lake Indian Band (T’exelcemc) Administration Building, which earned a 2022 Architecture, Construction and Design Award.

They also recently completed the 23,000 square foot Nanaimo Fire Station 1 building. Next on the horizon is the 120,000 square foot Kamloops Performing Arts Theatre.

“As we approach the end of our 25th year milestone, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to our staff, clients, and friends who have been instrumental in our success,” says Corra. “We remain committed to providing exceptional mechanical engineering services to our clients and building new relationships with prospective clients. We are excited to see what the future holds and we look forward to con-tinuing our journey in bringing high efficiency solutions and designs to the building industry.”
