MILL BAY – When it comes to what a company is spending on employee benefit packages, Tyler Hoffman believes owners should undergo a “wastage analysis” of what they’re paying for and what they’re receiving.

Hoffman, founder and President of OnPoint Employee Benefits, believes 8 out of 10 businesses are unknowingly overspending on their benefit programs.

“We fix this. Using our ‘wastage analysis’, we can show a business precisely where they are overspending, why, and what types of coverage they need exactly so waste never happens again,” he states. “Benefits are broken but they don’t have to be. On average, our clients are improving their coverage while reducing their monthly costs by 18 percent. It all starts with a complementary wastage analysis.”

Hoffman has been expanding the OnPoint brand and unique service offer across Canada for 16 years, and notes that with the onset of the Pandemic, it has allowed the company to work with clients in small communities everywhere.  They have now expanded into Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

OnPoint is not a broker, but a Benefit Consultant.

“We have a ‘total rewards’ perspective, and benefits, wellness and productivity is all we do,” Hoffman notes. “From being transparent on our commissions, to covering the costs for mental health Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), providing complementary access to online workplace financial wellness and offering loyalty premium rebates, these are just a few ways we add value.

“But the biggest way we add value is removing benefit premium wastage. Last week, we helped a seafood wholesaler in Victoria save $16,000 a year. This is why we do what we do.”

A Financial Advisor for 15 years, Hoffman identified a gap in the Group Benefits market and decided to try and fill it. He sold his financial planning practice in 2015 to focus completely on benefits, wellness and productivity, and Hoffman says his is the fastest growing benefits consultancy on Vancouver Island.

“We’re not ordinary, and our outside of the box thinking keeps us progressively modern,” he states, explaining their secrets to success. “We stay true to three key values in everything we do: transparency, responsivity, and enrichment.

“Taking the time to really understand the needs of our clients and seeking to learn what drives them and keeps them up at night allows us to design some great benefit strategies that are custom to their business.”
