Heavy Industrial Marine Company Eyes Adding Construction Industry Customers
NANAIMO – Northwest Tidal wants to give all companies a lift.
From land based civil engineered projects to heavy marine construction, Northwest Tidal is focused on heavy lifting and mooring.
“We’re unique and well-versed in overhead lifting,” says Northwest Tidal owner Lee Poirier. “We supply key lifting and mooring hardware to the construction and civil industries, as well as, the heavy industrial marine sectors, which makes us unique. There is no other company in the province we can think of that has brought together these two segments like we have, and we see significant potential for our combined services in both the heavy marine and construction industries.”
Northwest Tidal is a full-service provider and manufacturer of wire rope and chain assemblies, specializing in overhead lifting. They stock a full line of lifting chain, wire rope, web slings, round slings, synthetic ropes, shackles, HD thimbles, hooks, spreader bars, chain hoist, lever hoist, crane blocks, lifting blocks and more at their office/warehouse at 120 Fry Street in Nanaimo.
Northwest Tidal is an amalgamation of Northwest Wire Rope Ltd., which was formed in 1976, and Tidal Enterprises Ltd., co-founded by Poirier and Allen Reid in 2005. They acquired Northwest Wire Rope Ltd. from Dan Scarr in 2017, and Reid has since retired.
We have now partnered with other Canadian based companies, including the Atlantic based Go Deep International to service a broader customer base throughout North America. “Some of our employees have been here for 25 years, and we have well established rigging technicians on our team.” Poirier says, adding they’ve been growing substantially year to year. Our long-term employees provide the experience, communication and expert advice that have been the cornerstone of our success for over 40 years.
“Not only do we supply overhead lifting equipment, but we can provide pull test certifications with our 150 Ton test bed,” he states. The recent addition of a 660 Ton Single Swage press allows Northwest Tidal to press up to 1-1/2 inch wire rope slings.
Northwest Tidal is working with some of the largest scaled projects on the waterfront, including Seaspan and Victoria Shipyards, and Poirier says the company has supplied the majority of the gear for the salmon industry for the past 25 years.
Poirier says one of the major reasons for the company’s success and growth is their large on-hand inventory.
“Being able to forecast based on history, Northwest Tidal maintains ample stock for both civil and marine applications,” he says. “Our continued effort to nurture strong and lasting relationships with customers, suppliers as well as our staff will ensure our future.”
