VICTORIA – A recent chance encounter has blossomed into a mutually beneficial partnership for South Vancouver Island heating company Green Coast Heat Pumps Inc. and Prizm Heating and Ventilation, creating a one-stop shop for all custom heat pump and home ventilation needs.

For over two years, the dedicated team at Green Coast Heat Pumps have been the go-to heat pump specialists for Southern Vancouver Island. Based on the Saanich Peninsula, Green Coast Heat Pumps Inc. has been dedicated to empowering families in the community with energy-efficient heating and air conditioning solutions for all kinds of homes and clients.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and respect in our interactions with customers, and our commitment to excellence is unwavering,” says Darcy Cross, owner at Green Coast Heat Pumps. “Every interaction is an opportunity for us to showcase our dedication to providing exceptional service.”

“We take immense pride in offering an extensive range of services, from installation to maintenance, ensuring your heating and air conditioning systems run efficiently. Our expert technicians are committed to delivering exceptional service and providing tailored solutions for all your heating and cooling requirements.”

In 2023, Green Coast Heat Pumps and Prizm Heating and Ventilation were introduced by a local HVAC supplier who recognized commonality in each company owner’s commitment to a strong reputation based on quality craftmanship and excellent customer service.

After the two companies had completed multiple heat pump installation jobs together, the teams realized their interests were aligned. Mainly, in addressing the needs of the building market, particularly for small-business dedication to service and support, paired with big-business aptitude and capability.

“It’s too common to hear stories of the installation concept disconnect between salespeople and technicians, or the incentives to technicians of a job done fast. We don’t work like that,” says Cross. “Our attention is to detail and workmanship, those are the things that are important to our general contractor clients and their homeowner customers.”

Since then, it has been off to the races, with the two partners completing projects in Greater Victoria, with capacity to handle jobs from Sidney and North Saanich to Sooke, Langford and Duncan.

A current project that the team is working on is for Maximilian Huxley Construction Ltd. Located in Oak Bay,  the custom home project requires three ‘slim’ ducted heat pump air handlers and two HRV units serving the home.

“The team at Maximilian Huxley are happy with our high-quality product which, for this job, is a commercial style duct work which is much more ridged and allows for better airflow,” says Jordan Thomassen, owner at Prizm Heating and Ventilation.

Thomassen and company partner and co-owner Justin Wong worked closely with the client to design the ducting layout to be favourable to the architecture. With this custom approach, both Prizm and Green Coast lend their unique touch and provide an end product that exceeds the client’s expectations and inspires ideas for future projects.

The arrangement has brought out the best in both companies, and Cross believes this new approach will rectify a glaring gap in the small build space. He also believes this sustained partnership and approach will allow for more open and lasting communication between company and client.

“Our value-added service to builders is our continued responsibility for the installed HVAC system after the owners have taken occupancy, or post-renovation, to alleviate the general contractor from addressing it,” says Cross.

“There can be a period of education and training for the homeowners who may be moving to a Heat Pump and HRV from baseboard heat or fossil fuel heat. We look forward to maintaining a relationship with the end user of our product in the same way a custom home builder has that professional relationship with their client,” says Cross.

No matter the size or scope of the job, Cross is confident that Green Coast can handle even the most unique requests. With the added help of their friends at Prizm, the two upstanding businesses are ready for whatever challenge awaits.
