Not only will this partnership create over 200 jobs, but it will also accelerate the progress of cutting-edge bioprinted tissue therapeutics for individuals in B.C. and worldwide.

The Province will expand gynecological oncology surgery services to additional regions and reinforce care teams with more staff, including new oncologists, to better cancer care for women. Kelowna and Surrey are launching new gynecological cancer surgical programs to meet B.C.’s growing demand. These join two Vancouver and Victoria programs that provided gynecological cancer care to the province.

Destination Greater Victoria was awarded this week with the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) designation by Destinations International in recognition of the organization’s commitment to industry excellence and meeting the industry standard for performance and accountability of destination organizations around the world. The accreditation program requires a destination organization to successfully comply with a multitude of mandatory and voluntary standards that span a variety of performance areas to gain this momentous achievement. The standards cover nearly all aspects related to the management and marketing of destination organizations including governance, finance, human resources, sales, communications, destination development and research.

Road to Recovery, a British Columbia-developed addictions treatment model, is expanding, improving service accessibility by streamlining addiction therapy from detox to aftercare. An extra 100 treatment beds will be added as a result of this expansion in each health authority across the province. Expanding Road to Recovery is another substantial stride toward the establishment of a comprehensive system of mental-health and addictions care for all individuals in British Columbia, with a commitment of nearly $154 million over the next three years.

The Campbell River-based We Wai Kai Nation is collaborating with the province to rename the Tsa-kwa-luten resort the Tsakwa’lutan Healing Centre. The creation of two wings at the lodge with client rooms, roof repairs, and electrical system upgrades will cost roughly $7.9 million, all funded by the province.

The BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF), which provides capital project funding to assist manufacturing enterprises in modernizing, innovating, and expanding, is scheduled to close on August 15, 2024. New proposals and complete applications must be submitted by this date.

The province is providing Fort St. John Figure Skating Club with $40,000 under the Community Gaming Grants to cover ice costs and salaries for coaches and administrative staff.

PacifiCan announced $150,000 in funding for the City of Prince George to support the development of a regional hydrogen hub for Central and Northern B.C. Prince George is strategically positioned to take advantage of the expanding hydrogen economy due to its regional transportation advantages, including proximity to major highways, rail transport, and an international airport. This hub will extend along the Highway 16 West Corridor to Prince Rupert, presenting an opportunity to create jobs and increase business revenues through new investments in the region.

The province’s Community Gaming Grants will grant the Smithers Minor Hockey Association with $40,000 to help cover the cost of facilities for programmes for youngsters ages five to eighteen.

The Province and Halfway River are conducting a landscape planning project to protect Treaty 8 rights and support northeastern B.C. restoration, land protection, and sustainable development. B.C. and Halfway River are also agreeing to award the Nation a petroleum and natural gas tenure.

Skidegate Band Council Elders and families now have access to 24 affordable homes with the opening of a new, on-reserve rental complex. Located at 848 Highway 16 in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, the building is a two-story complex that is adjacent to the Skidegate Wellness Centre, providing tenants with direct access to culturally appropriate services.
