LANGFORD – The City of Langford received the Community Project Award from British Columbia Economic Development Association (BCEDA) for its its role in supporting the city’s economy. The award recognized The Langford Station for its excellence in economic development activities that provide commercial benefits to communities with a population exceeding 20,000 residents. The BCEDA announced the winners of the 2024 BC Economic Development Awards at its annual awards presentation held on May 8th, 2024, in Penticton, during the BC Economic Summit.
The Langford Station is in its third year of operation and has already turned into a popular destination for both visitors and residents. The arts district consists of business incubator spaces, artist studios, food trucks, open gathering space, public art, a dog park, and formalized parking.
“Projects like The Langford Station, foster community and entrepreneurial spirit by creating a space for connection and collaboration within the community,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “Council is setting the stage for Langford to become a vibrant destination for arts, highlighting and celebrating the diversity celebrated in our city. Over the coming months the City is undertaking an Economic Development Plan, and Arts and Culture Plan, which will help guide the next chapter for arts and culture in Langford.”
Residents who have not had the opportunity to visit The Langford Station yet are encouraged to attend one of the many annual events including “Fridays at the Station”, an ongoing pop-up summer series produced by the Victoria Beer Society running from May 3rd to August 23rd this year. The weekly event provides an evening of entertainment for all age groups with live music, food truck options, flights of BC craft beer and shopping at local businesses and art studios. Other year-round events to look forward to include the annual Show and Shine, the Food Truck and Music Festival, Treat Street and the Annual Winter Light Up.
