LANGFORD – The City of Langford is seeking input from residents on various projects to guide the city’s growth and development. As part of the Let’s Plan Langford. Together initiative, the City has been actively engaging with residents on strategies and master plans to meet the needs of current and future generations as Langford continues to rapidly grow.
Last week, the City released three surveys on its online engagement platform, Lets Chat Langford and is encouraging residents to participate in the following projects:
- Active Transportation Project – Latoria Road, Phase One
- Construction Impact Management Strategy
- Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan
“Successful plans result from actively listening to the people most affected by it. Through public participation and community feedback we’re striving for a city that places the needs and insights of its residents at the forefront,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “This collective effort will result in a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient city, where everyone can thrive.”
Active Transportation Project – Latoria Road, Phase One
The new elementary school on Latoria Road is set to open in September 2025, thereby creating a need for the City to expedite the Latoria Active Transportation Infrastructure Project ahead of the City’s Active Transportation Plan. The project has three phases and aims to build safe pedestrian and bike routes in South Langford, for all ages and abilities. The City is currently working on Phase One, which will start with creating safe pedestrian sidewalks from Triangle Trail to Whimfield Terrace in 2025, pending the City’s successful BC Active Transportation Grant. The City invites residents to attend the Council Meeting on October 21, 2024, to provide their input during public participation and also complete the online survey, which closes on October 22, 2024.
Construction Impact Management Strategy
The City of Langford is creating a Construction Impact Management Strategy, as part of the ‘Good Neighbour’ Policy to address residents’ concerns living near construction areas. The strategy aims to minimize disruptions, keep residents informed, and address issues during development to ensure that growth and business operations are reasonably livable for neighboring residents.
The City is encouraging residents to participate in the survey to understand the impact of construction on the neighborhood, with further engagement planned for the business and development community. The survey closes on November 3, 2024.
Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan (CWRP)
The CWRP will guide the City’s FireSmart program and aims to increase community awareness of wildfire risk, foster collaboration, and respond to community needs while developing achievable and measurable outcomes.
The CWRP will also support Council’s Strategic Plan priorities of sustainable development, climate change and environmental stewardship by offering guidance to the City’s FireSmart Program, and opportunities to enhance wildfire prevention, preparedness, and mitigation. While important work has been done to date, it is important to take time to reflect on the current plan, make updates, and continue to take a proactive approach to community wildfire resiliency.
The City wants to hear from residents about the impacts caused by wildfire in the community and priorities for wildfire management. The online survey contains five questions and will take 5-10 minutes to complete. Results from the survey will be considered during the development of the Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan. The survey closes on November 10, 2024.
