“We’re always looking for new customers, of course, and franchisees,” says Oxford, who is the Master Franchisor of Vancouver Island, Southern Alberta and Ottawa, and works out of the Jani-King Canada National Office in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia. “One of the keys to our success is our owner-operator concept, backed up by our double-check system with Regional Office support centres. This concept has led to a customer retention rate that sits at 0.9 percent in cancellations from customers.”

“I was in retail with Wal-mart, and it was the only other job I’ve ever had,” he recalls. “I was about to go into their store management program, when my business life-coach asked if I’d be interested in trying something else for a year, which was Jani-King.

“My wife and I decided to relocate to the Ottawa Region and spent the next 14 years there with Jani-King, and added other Regions to our roster: Vancouver Island in 2020 and Southern Alberta in 2024,” he adds. “I moved to Nova Scotia in 2021 to the National Office, but I’m on the road eight days a month now. I’ve never looked back, as this has been the right life choice for me. It’s been fantastic.”

Oxford notes that Jani-King has a variety of franchise plans to support franchisees “so they can be in business for themselves, but not by themselves. We’re very mindful of that, and we have a very strong training program to ensure their success.”

Franchisees can start with an entry-level plan and work the operation full-time, but Oxford notes that there are also opportunities for part-time operators.

“We have many husband and wife teams that have full-time day jobs and are looking for something else to supplement their incomes,” he states. “That’s why we have other plans for those who may not want to be full-time owner-operators, but still want to be involved and have a strong revenue stream.”
