PRINCE GEORGE – Celebrating 14 years in business with a team of qualified technicians, an arsenal of state-of-the-art equipment, including drones, Horizon Testing Inc. serves a wide variety of clients throughout British Columbia and more.
The list of clients for their advanced and conventional non-destructive testing (NDT) services includes some of the biggest names in industry from Canfor, West Fraser and Lafarge to Coeur Silvertip Mining and Chemtrade, among others.
“We can provide services for oil and gas, pulp and paper, mining, acid plants, railroad, power generation, marine and aerospace – anything that requires non-destructive testing,” says Daniel Tremblay, who has 40 years of experience in NDT and started the company in 2010. Daniel operates and co-owns with his wife Nancy, Managing Director. They have close to 30 inspectors, including ones that serve Vancouver Island and Vancouver.
“We test various materials for defects,” Daniel explains, adding they use various NDT methods such as ultrasonic, radiography, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle inspection technology to detect equipment flaws, which is particularly important when containment and pressure are involved. “We are certified to inspect to American Petroleum Institute (API) standards for above ground storage tanks and pressure vessels.”
Horizon Testing uses specialized equipment and technology which enables the inspection of ferrous and nonferrous tubes as well as fin fan tubes with Remote Field Testing (RFT), Eddy current, and External Remote Field Testing (XRFT) inspections. Additionally, they have ultrasonic systems such as the Analyst ND system to measure the thickness of near drum corrosion on generating bank tubes from both the steam and mud drums, tank vessel piping line crawler, raster scanner, and dryer-can scanning systems. They utilize ultrasonic phased array corrosion mapping technology (PA) with probes that can be used for high temperatures up to 200° C.
Horizon Testing Inc. was the first licensee for UTComp and has been part of the UltraAnalytix team since 2011.
Daniel expounds, “The UTComp system provides clients more information about their FRP equipment from the point of view of reliability. This allows them to better predict failures and identify damage before it leads to problems.” Horizon Testing provides UltraAnalytix inspection services on a regular basis to pulp mills and chemical plants in the Prince George area and throughout B.C.
Daniel and Nancy are very proud of the expertise and commitment of their client-focused technicians and accomplished administrative team.
“Our technicians bring a wealth of experience and knowledge of NDT testing across numerous industries,” Daniel states. “Our safety policies and practices are an integral part of our core values, and we believe that all accidents are preventable.” Nancy adds that Horizon Testing is COR and SAFE certified with WorkSafeBC and the BC Forest Safety Council, and is a member in good standing with Avetta, CanQual, Complyworks, Cognibox and ISNetworld.
Much of their work is with pulp and paper mills, chemical plants, and mines, stretching throughout the province and as far east as New Brunswick and have traveled to other countries for specialized inspections.
Horizon Testing is in the process of getting an AMO license that will enable them to provide NDT services for aircraft components in their state-of-the-art PT/MT facility as well as on aircraft around Prince George and on Vancouver Island.
“We are available 24/7 and I answer the calls – customers can call me directly, they don’t end up with an answering service,” Daniel explains. “We are always accessible. We’re also really good at coming up with innovative inspections when needed. If there is new technology available, we try to acquire it, so we can provide what our clients need when they need it.”
