VANCOUVER ISLAND – Growing up in a family of builders instills a certain commitment to craft. For John Newton, founder of Homewood Constructors, his upbringing taught him that in order to have repeat business and positive reputation, craftsmanship and quality must be at the core of every project he takes on.

Since 1986, Homewood Constructors has been delivering excellence in service and design to every project for an eclectic array of clients. Through years of experience and growth, Homewood has built a team of diverse industry professionals, each with a unique and in-demand skillset, that has become the foundation of the company’s operations.

Before Homewood, Newton made his name by managing multi-family and large-scale commercial projects. Today, the company focusses on multi-family development and has amassed a portfolio that spans across the greater Victoria area. By partnering with reputable subcontractors and suppliers and becoming a powerful force in the industry, Homewood has built a number of award-winning projects.

The Aura Residences project in Sidney was a finalist in the Multi-Family Condominium category. These one, two and three-bedroom homes are just a few steps from the ocean, shopping and local restaurants.

Last year, Homewood was recognized for their achievements in construction at the Capital Region Commercial Building Awards, with an Award of Excellence for The Residences on Sooke Harbour in the Multi-Family Condominium category. They were also named as a finalist for two projects, the Breeze By The Sea Residences and the Aura Residence projects in Sidney. The wood-frame, multi-family building provided two and three-bedroom homes that offered contemporary everyday living in a beautiful location just two blocks away from the beach.

Currently, Homewood is excited to get started on a multi-family project based in Thetis Lake, which will bring much needed housing density  to the area in the form of a four-story, 48 unit building. The project will feature a mix of one and two bedroom units, which  are expected to begin selling in the spring of 2023.

Homewood provides a number of other services outside of family, such as general contracting, construction management and commercial and institutional builds. By cultivating a multi-faceted approach to building and management, the company takes on each project with a unique lens.

Homewood Constructors won at the Capital Region Commercial Building Awards, with an Award of Excellence for The Residences on Sooke Harbour in the Multi-Family Condominium category. Carolynn Wilson Architect Ltd, was the project’s architect and Fitzpatrick Enterprises the developer.

Despite the numerous challenges to the industry including high costs, labour shortage and delays, Homewood remains committed to the client and to its original purpose: producing high-quality projects at an affordable price. Throughout the last two years, Newton and his team have remained vigilant in its practices and adapted to obstacles by remaining open-minded and creative with building solutions.

As things begin to shift in the new year, Homewood is confident it can tackle any challenge and the company looks forward to the new projects 2023 has in store for them.
