Here’s What’s Happening in May and June

WEST SHORE – Normally when I sit down to write this article, I try to come up with a unifying and somewhat cohesive theme. This month’s theme though, is “there’s a lot going on!”

Last month I talked about registration for the Best of the WestShore Awards voting platform. Registration opened on May 2nd and will remain open throughout the month of May. Side by side with this, we recently launched our Business Resource and Relocation Go2Guide, which will come out in August. Full of handy details about doing business and getting settled in the WestShore, this guide will also include a directory of WestShore Chamber members and information about the WestShore municipalities of Colwood, Langford, the Highlands, Metchosin and View Royal. By the time you read this, ad sales will have closed for the publication but you can still be part of the directory. Become a member of the WestShore Chamber by June 30th if you want to take advantage of this opportunity.

Membership is also a good idea if you are interested in attending our events. While we are always happy to welcome guests, our members are signing up for networking events in record time right now. Our May Member Mixer at Coastal Community Credit Union was booked up two weeks in advance – people are so keen to see other human beings in person!

And behind the scenes, our advocacy efforts are in full swing. In June, I will travel to Prince George for the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM and Conference. A key part of this event is the policy sessions, where delegates debate and vote on policies for 2022-23. The confirmed policies form the playbook for advocacy with the provincial government. This year the WestShore Chamber is pleased to support a number of policies including a call for ridesharing. It makes no sense that this has been approved in some parts of the province but not in others given our growing population and returning tourism trade.

To find out more about this and other initiatives, you can sign up for our e-news on our “Contact Us” page at westshore.bc.ca or follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. We’re here to help!
