August 18, 2022
VICTORIA– The Capital Regional Hospital District (CRHD) Board has approved a capital bylaw of $6.71 million to authorize funding of healthcare minor capital and equipment projects in the region. This funding was identified in the 2022 CRHD budget which was approved in March 2022.

“We are proud to invest in the health of our region by contributing to projects that are important to Island Health,” said Capital Regional Hospital District Board Chair Denise Blackwell. “The projects that we fund enhance patient care and safety for residents by sustaining and upgrading the region’s healthcare infrastructure and assets.”

The CRHD worked with Island Health to finalize the list of 2022 Minor Capital Projects and equipment purchases based on the priority needs for the region’s healthcare facilities.

Minor Capital Projects sustain the region’s health infrastructure through additions and improvements to existing healthcare facilities (such as replacement of aging or failing building systems or components), renovations or upgrades to accommodate changes in service delivery and responding to technological advances.

The 2022-2031 approved CRHD Capital Plan established funding of $3.75M as the CRHD share for Island Health 2022 Minor Capital Projects (valued between $100,000 and $2 million) and $2.955M as the CRHD share toward healthcare equipment purchases identified by Island Health ($2.925M) and Mount St. Mary Hospital ($30K). The CRHD 2022 Financial Plan includes more information.

The CRHD partners with Island Health and community stakeholder agencies to develop and improve healthcare facilities in the region and provide capital funding for infrastructure such as acute care, residential care and hospital equipment.
