COMPETITION SEARCHING FOR ISLAND’S BEST COCKTAIL

May 17, 2024

PORT ALBERNINilo Du Plessis of Antidote Distilling Co. has come up with a new recipe: Vancouver Island’s Biggest Cocktail competition.

The competition is open to anyone from across B.C., and Esquimalt Vermouth and Apertif of Esquimalt are already on board, as entries opened May 10. Eight finalists will be invited to a VIP experience weekend in Port Alberni July 5, when the winner will be announced.

All participating teams will be sent spirits from Antidote Distilling Co. to use in their special concoction, along with anything partners would like to add to the bag. Once their cocktail is submitted and posted online for voting, the field will be narrowed down to eight competitors: Seven selected by a team of judges, and one by popular vote through social media.
“All competitors will be tasked to make their way up to Port Alberni to create a new, fun cocktail using locally sourced ingredients and they will be awarded points based on creativity and originality, taste and balance, and presentation and style,” says Du Plessis. “The winner of this cocktail list will be awarded, along with the grand prize, a spot on our cocktail list for the summer season as well as a ‘Bar Takeover’ at the distillery for one night. We will use the Bar takeover nights to continue promoting our partners after the main event.”

All ticket holders will be invited to witness the proceedings and try each cocktail entered in the competition and light food on the night. The event will feature canapes and live music, and an after party featuring the winning cocktail.

Du Plessis is hoping to draw the attention of bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts from across the Island, and is looking for partners for the event. He can be contacted at info@antidotedistillingco.com
