Community Fire Prevention is on the road constantly to serve clients

BRITISH COLUMBIA– Keeping people safe is the top priority for Community Fire Prevention Ltd., an Onyx-FIRE Family Company dedicated to delivering reliable fire protection services across British Columbia.

Colin Greenhalgh, Business Development and Project Manager, says the company’s commitment to life safety drives every aspect of their work.

“Whether we’re providing products and services during construction or through ongoing maintenance, we always deliver our best because lives depend on it,” Colin explains. “It’s the service after the sale that separates us from other fire protection companies,” he adds. “We’ve built our business around excellent customer service, passion for fire safety and quick response times.”

Community Fire Prevention offers 24/7 emergency services including fire alarm installation, inspection, servicing, sprinkler systems, backflow prevention, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, ULC fire alarm monitoring, and code compliance support.

With roots in BC going back over 50 years, the company now employs over 200 people across its Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna locations, with service coverage across the province.

“Because we have technicians in many BC communities, our response times are fast, which is critical during emergencies,” Colin notes.

As a Red Seal Electrician with 28 years in the industry, Colin emphasizes the importance of compliance with fire protection codes in BC.

“The fire protection industry is regulated by two main codes: the BC Building Code for new construction, and the BC Fire Code for ongoing maintenance,” he explains. “These codes are adopted as law, alongside standards like the Fire Services Act, NFPA, CAN/ULC, and local bylaws.”

Under these laws, building owners and managers are legally responsible for ensuring systems such as fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, and extinguishers are functional and regularly maintained. Certified inspections are mandatory, and failure to comply can result in fines, insurance problems, or even criminal charges if preventable incidents occur.

“Too often, people don’t realize maintaining these systems isn’t optional—it’s the law,” Colin adds. “We’re here to take that pressure off our clients and ensure they’re fully compliant, protected, and prepared.”

Community Fire Prevention is known for its knowledgeable team of certified technicians, project managers, and service professionals who approach every project with care and accountability.

It’s this dedication to service, safety, and people that has made Community Fire Prevention a trusted name across the province.

“Our collaborative, hands-on approach ensures that even the most complex systems are delivered with precision, care, and accountability,” Colin points out. “The company also takes pride in mentoring the next generation of fire protection experts, offering ongoing training and growth opportunities for staff, while promoting a strong culture of teamwork, integrity, and professionalism. It’s a great place to work and I’m proud of our commitment to helping keep BC safe.”

Colin has been a strong supporter of fire safety awareness in BC throughout his career and also served as the first president of the Vancouver Island Fire Protection Association, which recently reformed to become the British Columbia Fire Protection Association to better meet the needs of the province.

The association continues to gain national attention and is holding its third annual conference, BC FireCon2025, this year at the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Center.  Tickets are on sale now and the public is invited to attend.  Community Fire is proud to be a sponsor for the event, and you can meet Colin and the Community Fire team there on September 25th & 26th.
