BRITISH COLUMBIA – Truckers can participate in the fifth edition of the Clean BC Heavy Duty Vehicle Efficiency Program and receive rebates of $20,000 per vehicle and up to $150,000 per fleet toward the purchase and installation of fuel-saving devices.
The BC Trucking Association announced the partnership with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and this round features $3.5 million in funding through a streamlined application process and new funding levels, qualifying equipment and vehicle thresholds. It is for Class 5 and higher vehicles, and there are also new equipment and increased program incentives for qualifying equipment. The program is available to BC fleets of all sizes, and there is no requirement to be a member of BCTA.
By providing commercial carriers with fuel management strategies and incentives of up to 50% for approved fuel-efficiency devices, participation in the HDVE Program aims to significantly reduce fuel consumption and associated GHG emissions from the commercial road transportation industry.
Since its inception in 2019, the CleanBC HDVE Program has provided $5.74 million in rebates to carriers across BC, which has resulted in an estimated annual reduction of 83 million kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions , translating to the equivalent of over 17,570 vehicles taken off the road throughout the continent, or 12,645 vehicles in B.C each year.
