CHIMS Guest House Hosting Indigenous Festival August 6

CHIMS is looking forward to their big event August 6

PORT ALBERNI CHIMS Guest House has a “tiny secret” they want to share at a huge weekend celebration showcase they are planning for Saturday, August 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

From 8:30-9:30 a.m. Chims Guest House will unveil the first of several Mint Tiny Homes on the property for a private tour, builder meet and greet for the Nuu-chah-nulth Chief and Councils, City of Port Alberni and Regional District from 8:30am – 9:30 am. Attendees will receive 10 Tiny Home Tips from the Mint Tiny House Company.

The general public can purchase tickets Čims Fest! (Bear) Fest! An Indigenous festival celebrating culture, food and shopping at the resort on Highway 4 which owners Ed and Naomi Nicholson are planning for visitors.

“This year we’re hosting a five hour event for $129.99 which includes a Wild Sockeye Salmon lunch, many performances, shopping and special surprises.

Andrew Puglass and family of the ‘Namwayut Culture Group’ from the Namwayut Cultural Society of Northern Vancouver Island will perform for 45 minutes. Indigenous vendors onsite include jewelry, drums, drum kits , language rocks, cedar roses, clothing, soaps, salve and more.”

The Nicholsons’ daughter created bear, hummingbird, eagle and raven handmade soaps. A fashion show will feature Naomi’s private clothing collection including Ay lelum- The Good House of Design.

“The theme of the event is Saasin and Qu?usin (hummingbird and raven), A love story,” Naomi explains. “This a way for us to actively teach the culture in the way we best can with experiential learning.”

She adds there will be a dress code to the event, as attendees are encouraged to wear something Indigenous whether clothing or jewelry.

“We believe this is active reconciliation, where we are providing people with an opportunity to truly be a part of the reconciliation process,” she adds.

Indigenous Culture and Education are an important value of Čims Fest! Funds will be raised for Namwayut Culture Group and Haahuupayak School.

“Guests of this event will bear witness to the showcasing of Indigenous Culture and will leave with a new sense of pride and personal reconciliation by attending Čims Fest! with an open heart and mind.”
