VICTORIA – The development permit application put forth by Chard Developments for 1050 Yates finally received unanimous approval by Victoria City Council on January 11, 2024. This will allow for 481 new rental homes in the Harris Green neighbourhood.
“This area at the junction of Cook and Yates Streets is quickly becoming a dynamic hub with new residents and amenities, with our soon-to-be completed projects Haven and Nest just across the street, and a number of new projects from other developers nearby. We are excited to see this project receive approval so we can deliver these rental homes as soon as possible,” stated Byron Chard, President and CEO of Chard Development following the recent approval.
The development consists of two buildings above a shared podium (15 and 25 storeys) and is located at the intersection of Cook and Yates Street. The purpose-built rental homes will vary from studios to 3-bedroom suites and allow access to two guest suites.
The development will offer shared spaces and retail on the ground level as well as a south-facing public plaza. As well as meeting the demand for much needed rental housing in the downtown area, the project is estimated to create 1,000 jobs during the construction phase.
