VICTORIA – Award winning Carolynn Wilson Architect Ltd. is a full-service architectural firm that specializes in a wide range of project types.
That includes market condominiums, afford-able and market apartments, townhouses, custom residential homes, commercial and institutional buildings, says Principal Architect Carolynn Wilson, who founded the firm in 2017.
“Our work is mostly new build construction projects, with some renovations, additions, heritage projects, and we provide Feasibility Studies, Rezoning, Development Permit Drawings, Building Permit Drawings, Interior Design, Tender and Construction Administration,” says Carolynn.
“Currently, we are working on Rezoning projects for multi-family housing projects up to six stories, and Townhouse projects that will meet Step Code 3 for energy efficient buildings, Heritage Building Renovation and an Education Interior Renovation with code and interior upgrades for an inclusive environment, flexible teaching/learning environment and new refreshing aesthetics.”
Each project the firm undertakes is unique and our firm provides creative designs, that are sustainable, holistic and are suited specifically for the project, clients’ needs, site and context.
“We bring a creative vision and artistic approach to designing spaces and buildings that emphasize the beauty of the space through form, details, materiality, and a connection to the exterior,” she states.
“Stylistically, our design work is of a modern or contemporary aesthetic, and if appropriate for the client the work may be a transformation of a traditional style, or inspired by the site.
Carolynn brings an artistic approach, strong connection to nature, and offers clean detailing that emphasize the beauty simple forms and materiality. She designs with hand drawings in perspective and plan, and then the team moves into 3D computer modelling and work-ing drawings.
“Many of our projects have been located on complex sites or may have restrictive bylaws, for which we provide innovative design solutions. We work closely with our Consultant team to resolve the multi-faceted issues of each unique project and setting,” she says.
The firm also focuses on sustainable solutions, including designing high performance building envelopes and systems.
In 2022 the firm received several acknowledgements for its work, including having three projects published in the book, Architects of the Pacific Northwest, Innovative and Sustainable: featuring The Residences on Sooke Harbour – 27 waterfront condos, Ophir Townhouses – 14 Unit project in Saanich, and Windsor Road House a custom single family in Oak Bay.
The Sooke project received an Award of Excellence for multi-family condominiums in the 2022 Capital Region Commercial Building Awards, and an International ‘Runner Up’ International Design Award with ‘Rethinking The Future’. Carolynn was also featured in Spruce Magazine and Western Living Magazine advocating for architects in designing custom residential homes.
“Experience is also essential to our success, as my architectural background of 27 years, includes working for reputable firms in Canada and Australia on multi-unit residential projects, institutional, education, health care, commercial and custom residential buildings, providing start to finish project management and project architect services,” she states.
