VICTORIA – Broadstreet Properties of Campbell River was named the Enterprise Business of the Year at the sold-out 24th Annual TD Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort in Victoria Thursday night.
The Enterprise category was the final of 17 on the night, and featured businesses who posted in excess of $10 million in 2024.
Broadstreet Properties is a Canadian leader in service focused apartment rental management committed to providing comfortable and quality rental apartments for our tenants across the country. Their tenants are supported by a team of professionals driven by Broadstreet’s values, and their team includes on-site management and on-site maintenance at our properties, with the support of their in-house 24/7 Client Services team.
“The quality of the entries has been fascinating, and as usual, the nominations have come from all across Vancouver Island: From as far north as Campbell River, to the Southern tip of the Island in Sidney,” says event organizer John MacDonald, President of the Business Examiner News Group. “Following the success of last year’s event, we had a record 405 nominated organizations, 118 finalists, and a complete sell-out of business owners and leaders from across the Island.”

DKI-Pro Pacific, based in Parksville, was named Big Business of the Year (Over $5 million in revenue), sponsored by Van Isle Windows. DKI-Pro Pacific is a proud locally-owned and operated restoration company with roots on the Island going back over 50 years. They provide 24/7 emergency restoration services for all types of property including fire and water restoration, wind damage repair, hazardous materials abatement, biohazard or vandalism cleanup.

The Award of Excellence in Mid Sized Business ($1-5 M Revenue) went to Resthouse Sleep. Left, Grant McDonald of Doane Grant Thornton, right, Chris Manley of Resthouse Sleep.
Mid-Sized Business of the Year ($1-5 million in revenue), sponsored by Doane Grant Thornton, was Resthouse Sleep of Victoria and Duncan. Resthouse is a local, independent business dedicated to providing high-quality, sustainable bedding solutions that promote healthier sleep and well-being. In 2024, they celebrated their 10th year in business and also opened a second location in Duncan to serve their Cowichan Valley customers. In addition to their two retail locations, they have a robust e-commerce platform serving customers in Canada, USA and beyond.

John Cooper, of John Cooper & Associates received the Small Business Award of Excellence, presented by Josh Higgins of Remax Commercial.
Small Business of the Year (Under $1 million in revenue) went to John Cooper and Associates of Nanaimo. John Cooper & Associates is a dynamic real estate team with over 15 years of experience serving clients throughout Central Vancouver Island. Led by John Cooper, a highly respected figure in the local real estate community, the team has built a reputation for offering trusted guidance, personalized service, and consistently delivering strong results.

Level Ground Coffee Roasters was the recipient of the Agriculture & Food Processing Award of Excellence, sponsored by Van Isle Windows. Receiving the award is co-founder Stacey Toews.
Agriculture and Food Processing Business of the Year, sponsored by Van Isle Windows, is Level Ground Coffee Roasters of Saanichton. Level Ground began in 1997 on Vancouver Islands, small-batch roasting coffee from small farms and co-op across the world. Their first farmer partnership was with a co-op in Colombia and since then, they have worked with over 5,000 farmers across ten countries.

Construction and Development Business of the Year, sponsored by Relish Blinds, Shades and Awnings, was Vectis Custom Homes of Nanoose Bay. Vectis Ventures was started approximately 25 years ago. Ownership changed approximately 5 years ago when Dustin Holland took over, changing the name to Vectis Custom Homes. They specialize in high end luxury custom homes. They also are very experienced in any type of renovation. Their geographical area spans from Deep Bay to Lantzville.

Construction Trades Business of the Year, sponsored by Modern Purair, was TLC Victoria, which has proudly served Vancouver Island since October 2008, providing blue-collar temporary employment opportunities to hardworking individuals. Their services span a wide range of industries, including: General labour, Trades helpers, Landscaping, Skilled trades such as carpenters, Safety positions (TCP, OFA, CSO), Equipment operators, drivers, swampers; Warehousing, cleaning crews, staging crews, and more.

The Award of Excellence in Health Care Services went to Broadmead Care. Presenting the award from Sponsor TD, was Niki Hadizadeh to Bernardo, Derrick of Broadmead.
Health Care Services Business of the Year, sponsored by TD, was Broadmead Care of Victoria, a non-profit health care organization that has been providing care on Vancouver Island since 1973. Their core business includes long term care and day programs for seniors, veterans and young disabled adults. They own, operate and manage nine Care homes located in Saanich, James Bay, Sidney, Parksville, Comox and Nanaimo.

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) was the recipient of the Award of Excellence in Hospitality & Tourism. Receiving the Award is Judith Ethier of GVHA and presenter is Scott Speakman of sponsor, Helijet.
Hospitality And Tourism Business of the Year, sponsored by Helijet, was the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA), which is a not-for-profit organization committed to the stewardship and sustainable growth of Victoria’s dynamic working harbour. The GVHA was conceived by a group of business leaders and community advocates, and since their creation in 2002, they’ve been local champions and stewards of the harbour land and marine assets divested from the Government of Canada.

Indigenous Business of the Year, sponsored by CHIMS Motel, was Skytec Group of Companies of Port Alberni. Skytec is a local residential and commercial contractor in Port Alberni. Serving the mid-island area, they also have experience with projects in remote – even isolated – locations. They build homes from the ground up, complete major renovations and restorations.

Industrial Manufacturing Business of the Year, sponsored by Nanaimo Airport, was Revival Stillworks of Sidney. Revival Stillworks has been operating for approximately 5 years. They operate in the niche industry of designing and manufacturing distilling systems for the growing craft distilling industry. They focus on the North American market with their customer base being approximately 50/50 USA/Canada, but their services are requested worldwide.

Marketing, PR and Connection Business of the Year, sponsored by Business Examiner, is Empower Women Canada. Non Profit Organization of the Year, sponsored by Proline Property Management, was Threshold Housing Society of Victoria. Threshold’s mission is preventing adult homelessness by providing safe housing, support services, and community to at-risk youth. Threshold opens doors for youth aged 15 – 24 and prevents adult homelessness. Threshold serves youth at-risk-of or experiencing homelessness, aging out of care, or fleeing violence in the home. These young adults need a place to call home and people who believe in them.

Professional Services Firms Business of the Year, sponsored by Alitis Investment Counsel, is Avalon Accounting of Victoria. Avalon has been empowering Canadian small business owners for eight years, providing online bookkeeping and accounting services designed for the modern entrepreneur. Many entrepreneurs are passionate about their work but lack a financial background. Retail – Brick & Mortar – E-Commerce Business of the Year, sponsored by Mid-Island Co-op, is Relish – Blinds, Shades and Awnings of Campbell River. Relish Interiors started in Campbell River in 2018 as a professional interior design firm that also offered interior window treatments, and has evolved over the years. In late 2021 they shifted exclusively to interior & exterior window treatments and became “Relish – Blinds, Shades and Awnings”. Relish is a small, family owned and operated business with one showroom in Campbell River and a second opening soon in the Comox Valley.

Dogwood Health Consulting Inc was the winner of the Technology & Innovation Award of Excellence. Michael van Campen, CEO of Dogwood, received the award from Aaron Stone, of sponsor South Island Prosperity Partnership.
Technology and Innovation Business of the Year, sponsored by South Island Prosperity Partnership, is Dogwood Health Consulting of North Saanich. Dogwood is an innovative professional services company providing world-class interoperability-related services to the health sector in Canada and abroad. These services connect health data across the sector providing a longitudinal patient record to help improve patient lives, increase patient safety and help discover efficiencies in healthcare delivery.
