Brynn Nheiley

Brynn Nheiley has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Sustainable Buildings Canada (SBC), with effect from November 12, 2024.

Scott Morishita has been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Jason Goldsworthy has been appointed as the Executive Director of the Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies, which has been established to promote innovation in the Pacific Canada’s emerging blue economy.

Jason Morehouse, a tech entrepreneur and former Checkfront founder, strongly supports early mental health screenings. Jason founded HiBoop, an evaluation platform that provides preliminary mental health screening services to individuals and healthcare practitioners, with a goal of expanding abroad while staying in Victoria’s innovation ecosystem.

Jesse Torry has been promoted to the position of Team Lead with Avalon Mechanical. Jesse has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of the Vancouver Office.

Kelly Mann was officially inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame. From 1999 to 2018, she served as President and CEO of the BC Games Society, transforming the BC Games into the world-renowned multi-sport competition they are today.

Andrew Melville has been instrumental in establishing the Avalon Mechanical Building Performance Team. This diligent work and ongoing leadership makes his promotion to Technical Lead a natural progression.

Mohamed Ladak 

Mohamed Ladak has been named the new Chief Executive Officer at the Association of Interior Realtors.

Stephen Lee, CEO of Musqueam Capital Corporation, has been appointed to the board of Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.

Real Estate agent, Annette Cosens, stated that the large property on Shuswap Lake, which is referred to as Fighting Dog Ranch, is currently being offered for sale at a price of $22 million. The property was designed by Calvin Ayre, and a Thai architect was engaged to build the other aspects of the property.

Walter Pela, FCPA, FCA assumed the role of Chair of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.

 Sarah Sedlock, a student at Camosun College majoring in electronics and computer engineering, received a Women in Technology Scholarship last year, which provided her with a financial boost of over $10,000. At a ceremony scheduled for November 16, 2024, at Vancouver’s H.R. MacMillan Science Centre, the BC Scholarship Society will present 14 more of these influential Scholarships. These awards will further strengthen the foundation supporting women in technology in British Columbia.

Canada Student Loan forgiveness is now available to medical professionals working in areas with 30,000 or fewer residents, according to a governmental announcement made on November 12. Approximately 200 additional communities now have access to the benefit thanks to the revised definition of “underserved rural or remote community” for medical professionals. Over the following decade, this shift should encourage more than 900 more medical professionals to practice in outlying areas. About 1.7 million Canadians residing in newly qualifying locations should anticipate an expansion of health care service availability as a result.

More than $574 million in federal funding to develop 950 Vancouver rental houses. Marcon Developments Ltd. is building 211 apartments on 42nd Avenue with $110 million from the Apartment Loan Construction Program, which provides repayable low-interest loans to encourage middle-class Canadians to rent. Other Vancouver locations receiving loans from the scheme include 1099 Harwood Street ($185.4 million), 1066 Harwood Street ($184 million), and 1317 Richards Street ($94 million).

The City of Prince George has filed a claim in BC Supreme Court seeking compensation for the deficiencies in the design of the Canfor Leisure Pool. In its Notice of Civil Claim , the City asserts the design of the pool was deficient, amounted to a breach of the contract between the City and the designer, and was negligent. The City claims from the designer compensation for all losses the City suffered as a result of the deficient design, including the costs of investigating the cause of the deficiencies and the costs of remedying the deficiencies.

According to a press release by the Conference Board of Canada, Canadian manufacturing sales fell by 0.5 per cent (m/m) in September. This was a slightly more modest decline than anticipated in Statistics Canada’s flash estimate which called for a 0.8 per cent drop. After accounting for price effects, real manufacturing sales volumes fell by 0.4 per cent (m/m). Nominal sales grew in 11 of the 21 manufacturing subsectors. Sales of primary metal products (+$118 million) rose the most. Meanwhile, sales of petroleum and coal products (-$580 million) saw the sharpest decline.
