There are over 300 locations of Best Buy Canada across the country

BRITISH COLUMBIABest Buy Canada is celebrating 25 years of doing business in Canada this year.

With over 300 locations across the country that highlight the latest and greatest tech, and 80 percent of Canadians residing within 15 minutes of each store, the outlet has a significant product mix of technology that can improve daily life including wireless plans.

Jennifer Barr of Best Buy Canada

Jennifer Barr, Vice President and Category Officer, Wireless, Best Buy Express, and Exclusive Brands at Best Buy Canada, has been with the company for over 20 years, and she supports three teams: the wireless merchandising team, which collaborates with Canadian carriers and OEMs to manage wireless products for Best Buy; and the Exclusive Brands team, which coordinates with Best Buy US to bring exclusive products to Canada.

“As a leader, I have found success in truly living the Best Buy values which include having fun while being the best, learning from challenge and change, and approaching relationships with humility and integrity,” Jennifer states. “Best Buy is focused on enriching lives through the amazing consumer technology that our partners develop for Canadians, and it takes great relationships and great teams to deliver this.”

Jennifer also works closely with the leadership team at Bell Canada and internal Best Buy teams to steward the Best Buy Express partnership which includes over 160 stores in malls and communities across Canada. This retail and telecom partnership, which was stood up in 2024, is the first of its kind in North America, and these stores offer a curated assortment of consumer electronics alongside Mobile services exclusively from Bell Mobility, Virgin Plus, and Lucky Mobile.

“Right now, we’re witnessing the rise of smarter, AI-powered products that work smoothly across phones, wearables, and accessories,” she points out. “There are notable improvements in battery life, personalization, and user experience. Along with this, cell phone plans offer greater value and a wider range of choices at various price points. Overall, the category is moving towards increased value, intelligence, and interconnected user experiences, and Best Buy is uniquely positioned to offer customers the combination of devices and services that work best for them.”

Best Buy Canada is known for carrying Exclusive Brands

Jennifer notes that the biggest trend in wireless right now is the shift from hype-driven AI to practical AI – moving beyond the buzzword to what it does for customers in their everyday lives. Whether that’s smarter photo editing, real-time translation, or phones that learn your habits, the focus is now on tangible value and usability.

“Over the past three years, we’ve seen carriers introducing more competitive phone plan pricing, along with increased innovation in hardware, especially among Android phones leading to a growing demand for a variety of brands,” she says. “As people move constantly and require continuous connectivity, data consumption is steadily rising. Additionally, carriers’ substantial investments in 5G infrastructure are making wireless device experiences smoother than ever.

Best Buy Canada’s biggest advantage comes down to choice, experience, and service.

“We offer a broad range of carriers in our big box locations, which makes us a true destination for customers to compare options and find what fits their needs,” Jennifer notes. “On top of that, we provide flexibility in how customers buy, whether it’s a carrier activated phone, an outright purchase, in-store, or online with delivery. Our experience is built around convenience.

“What truly sets us apart is the comprehensive value we provide, including robust trade-in options and discounts when bundling ecosystem products such as earbuds and smartwatches. Paired with our in-store service and support, this approach offers a more holistic and tailored experience than simply selling a phone.”
