BBB & HeroWork Partner for Rainbow Renovation

May 9, 2016

VICTORIA – BBB serving Vancouver Island and HeroWork are partnering to raise money, and recruit volunteers for the Radical Renovation of the Rainbow Kitchen.

“The Rainbow Kitchen is a local charity, that provides nutritious and tasty host lunch meals to 125 to 140 people a day, 50 weeks of the year – that’s over 36,000 meals a year,” says Rosalind Scott, President & CEO of BBB serving Vancouver Island. “The current building from which the program is operating is in desperate need of renovation and repair. HeroWork, another local non-profit organization has stepped up to the plate to take on coordinating this massive $500,000 renovation. BBB is joining forces to help spread the word, fundraise and recruit volunteers.”

BBB has been helping to actively recruit accredited businesses with much needed skill sets to volunteer some time, labour and resources to assist with the three-weekend renovation (beginning September 16, 2016). HeroWork is in need of a long list of volunteers including: landscapers, carpenters, asbestos remediation, commercial floor installers, plumbers, electricians, refrigeration specialists and more. They are also recruiting community leaders who want to assist with public relations and event management to help with promoting the project and the “Big Reveal” scheduled for October 2, 2016.

“BBB believes in the importance of local businesses supporting and building community. What better way to show your commitment to ethics, trust, community and service than to get your hands dirty and volunteer for a grassroots project,” says Scott. “I am challenging accredited and non-accredited businesses, to mobilize, take action and get involved in this amazing community project.”

To kick-off BBB’s commitment to this project, BBB will be donating all funds raised at their annual Community Shredding Event to the Rainbow Kitchen. All consumers and small business in Greater Victoria are invited to come to the Tillicum Centre parking lot (outside of Old Navy) Friday May 13, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to bring their shredding. Access Records and Media Management is once again graciously donating their mobile shredding truck to provide secure onsite shredding services. Shredding is by donation only.

“Whether you are a business owner or a member of the public, you can help support HeroWork and their volunteer driven renovation projects,” says Scott.  “Come drop off your old documents and make a donation at our shredding event, make a donation direct to HeroWork, or considering volunteering a day of your time helping with a community renovation. Many hands make light work, and your investment will have a valuable impact on the local community.”
