Appraisals Necessary For Business Finances, Insurance

VICTORIA – When it comes to equipment appraisals, the Malahat Valuation Group knows that accuracy and time is of the essence for their customers.

Malahat Valuation Group, founded in 2016 by Ernest and Aleksandra Bednarz, offers complete valuation and appraisal services all under one roof for business, real estate and equipment.

The reasons for appraisals vary from sale or purchasing, re-financing, insurance, divorce, donation, tax, and financial planning.

Malahat Valuation Group’s appraisal reports are accepted by the courts, taxing authorities, and lenders.

It is the responsibility of Equipment Appraiser Darcy Cross to make sure that appraisals are important and must be kept updated “to be able to report asset value for financing purposes, annual insurance needs, or to meet lease requirements.

“Whether business clients need to value their companies, their real estate, or a specific piece of equipment, we can help them on all fronts without the need to contact multiple professionals,” Cross adds. “Many of our engagements call for a business valuation that is supported by a real estate or equipment appraisal as part of the process.”

MVG offers a full suite of appraisal services including business valuation, commercial real-estate appraisal, and equipment appraisal.

Cross notes “My background includes experience in aviation appraisal, and I have a mandate to expand our aviation appraisal practice by offering a full suite of appraisal services to aviation companies. Aviation companies are in frequent need of appraisals in order to fulfil their lease contracts or borrowing requirements.”

Cross adds that MVG is engaged by clients to appraise all types of equipment.

“The ability to value or appraise the three different asset classes with one phone call is what makes us very different than any other valuation or appraisal company in Western Canada,” he states. “We provide extra value by specializing, leveraging our complimentary expertise, and running a very efficient organization. For these reasons our fees are very competitive.”

He points out that the company has grown by double digits annually since inception, and that their reputation is growing and increasing amongst the professional fields of accounting, legal and finance communities – which are the three main referral sources.

We have appraised a wide range of equipment in various industries ranging from restaurant service, automotive service, construction, manufacturing, office supplies, transportation, and aviation,” Cross says. “On the equipment side, equipment values have appreciated steeply. I’m seeing instances of 15 year old pick-up trucks and full size vans selling for the same price they did 10 years ago. At the same time financing has been become increasingly stringent.”

The equipment appraisal reports MVG provides to clients adheres to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the generally recognized ethical and performance standards for the appraisal profession.  In his spare time Cross is also working on his continuing education by pursuing additional accreditation with ASA, an international organization of professional appraisers representing all appraisal disciplines including Business Valuation and Machinery and Technical Specialties Valuation.
