NANAIMO – Small Business Information Expos are an engagement event concept developed by the office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) Pacific Region to provide a holistic opportunity for businesses to access government support programs and subject matter experts at one location at no cost.
Events are held in centralized strategic locations in a free tradeshow format where support programs are available to the general public. OSME has developed a cost effective model that allows both support programs and the public to participate for free while OSME covers costs of event management and coordination. In Nanaimo, the Information Expo is being held on Tuesday, November 24 at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre from 10 am – 2 pm. As well as the trade show, there are three panels discussions – “Selling to Government”, “Access to Financing” and “Pillars of Start-Up”.
This model creates value for the small business community who can quickly meet with and assess program information to determine which are of most value without having to navigation websites, general info e-mails, and 1-800 numbers. Instead they connect directly with program representatives to get information in simply language and follow up with programs later as required.
This collaborative concept allows government to provide holistic public service to the business community in a cost effective value-added solution which removes organizational information silos and directly responds to stakeholder requirements.
