PORT ALBERNI – We are reaching out to you/your organization because we know you’re a mover and shaker; someone who’s tapped in to the ever-changing landscape of business and industry. And as a mover and shaker, you may have heard utterings of Port Alberni’s shifting focus.
A rapidly diversifying community, Port Alberni is attracting investment like never before. In recent years Port Alberni has been named one of British Columbia’s top 10 communities for new housing starts per capita. We also saw a 40 per cent increase in the price of a single-family home and a higher year-over-year price jump than any other Vancouver Island municipality. We secured our future as a dynamic and connected community with the purchase of 43-acres of waterfront land which is intended for mixed residential and commercial development as well as a waterfront walkway and park.
Port Alberni is both large enough to offer an array of supports for business, and small enough for entrepreneurs to carve out a niche for themselves. And here is where you come in. Port Alberni’s historic Train Station is up for grabs.
The City of Port Alberni is looking to give a creative business, individual, group, organization or social enterprise the opportunity to lease the Train Station as a shell building in which to develop their own commercial space and undertaking(s).
Through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the City hopes to find someone who will create a new, vibrant urban space that aligns with the development of the surrounding neighbourhood, diversifies and complements the area’s commercial offerings, enhances the pedestrian activity and experience of the area, and pays homage to the historical and cultural context of the building and site.
