PORT ALBERNI – The City of Port Alberni has hired Michael Fox as the new Chief Administrative Officer [CAO]. Mr. Fox will assume his new role on March 15, 2023.
Mr. Fox brings more than 20 years of executive experience in local government, most recently as Director of Community Services for the City of Lethbridge. Mr. Fox’s educational background and involvement in municipal environments has resulted in a broad portfolio that includes a considerable understanding of strategic capital and operating planning, building relationships with neighbouring governments and collaborating with community partners to ensure the delivery of cost-effective and sustainable municipal services.
“Council and I are pleased to welcome Mr. Fox to the City of Port Alberni,” said Mayor, Sharie Minions. “During the executive search process members of Council were excited by the alignment between Council’s vision and Mr. Fox’s experience and strengths. Council felt strongly that the CAO should be a person whose attributes of empathy, energy and authenticity aligned with Council’s vision for our community. I look forward to working closely with Michael, and drawing on his skills, knowledge and leadership, which will be integral in the continued implementation of Council’s strategic goals.”
The City completed an extensive executive recruitment process supported by Brentwood Advisory Group. The role of CAO as the senior-most municipal employee is to report directly to Mayor and Council, to lead municipal staff in all aspects of operations, and to ensure that the City’s strategic and operational goals are achieved. The CAO also represents the City as a key contributor for matters involving First Nations, the province and other local governments.
“I am excited to join the team at the City of Port Alberni and will work with Council and staff, along with the community, stakeholders and partners, to advance the goals and strategic plan of the City,” said Michael Fox. “We cannot wait to make Port Alberni home.”
