NANAIMO REGIONAL DISTRICT APPROVES GRANTS FOR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

NANAIMO – The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board approved community grants for 27 organizations across the region at the July 9, 2024, board meeting. The value of the community grants awarded for the spring 2024 intake totals $97,622 and will be used for a variety of community-focused projects. Community grants help registered non-profit organizations deliver social programs and services that serve a local community or provide a regional benefit.

Arrowsmith Agricultural Association – New chairs in main meeting halls: $2,000
Coastal Invasive Species Committee Society – Education, awareness and field programs: $3,700
ECHO Players Society – Replacement of old seating in the auditorium: $5,000
Errington Preschool Parents Society – Art supplies and outdoor play equipment: $2,000
Gabriola Commons Foundation – Upgrades to the electrical system to meet code: $5,000
Gabriola Land and Trails Trust – Invasive species removal, education and restoration: $2,675
Gabriola Songs Society dba Gabriola Theatre Centre – Lighting equipment needs: $2,700
Help Ukraine Vancouver Island Society – Monthly food share program for over 130 families: $5,000
Jonanco Hobby Workshop Association – Quilt batting and lapidary supplies: $2,500
Kwalikum Secondary School 2024 Dry Grad – Dry Grad celebration: $2,500
Lighthouse Country Business Association – Repairs and maintenance of replica lighthouse: $2,500
Mid-Island Air Search & Rescue Society – Vests, laptops and office upgrades: $5,969
Mid-Island Pensioners and Hobbyist Association dba Bradley Centre – Door and a security

Nanaimo Disc Golf Club – Park usage fees for Hub City Huck tournament: $1,500

Oceanside Hospice Society – Training for Volunteer Facilitator positions: $2,000
Oceanside Youth 4 Youth Society – Youth Empowerment and Community Development Initiative – includes recreation, workshops, mentorship programs and outings: $5,500
Pacific Coast Stage Company – Laptop, box office terminals, tents and drape systems: $8,078
Parksville and District Historical Society – Repairs and restoration of Knox Heritage Church: $6,000
PQB Fruit Tree Foundation – Farm School at the MAC Community Garden: $4,000
Qualicum Beach Historical and Museum Society – Annual Children’s Museum Day: $1,000

Qualicum Beach Multi-Use Cinema Society – Closed top trailer to transport and store 80 director-style seats for cinema seating for indoor and outdoor events: $4,000
Royal Canadian Legion Seaview Centennial Branch 257 – Upgrade the steam table and glass washer as per food safe requirements: $6,000
Take a Hike Youth Mental Health Foundation – Outdoor land-based learning for up to 32 youth experiencing vulnerabilities: $4,000
The Friends of Nanoose Library Society – 50 year community celebration event: $2,000
The Men’s Centre – Purchase of furniture and computers – $3,500
Women of Influence Nanaimo / Footprints Infertility and Pregnancy Loss Support Society – Second annual Women of Influence Nanaimo Awards Gala: $3,000
