Nanaimo RDN Board Approves Grants in Support of Local Organizations

June 24, 2021

NANAIMO – The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board approved grants for 27 organizations across the region at the June 22 board meeting.

The value of the grants awarded totals $91,112 and will be used for a variety of community and recreation focused projects.

“We recognize that many organizations have been financially impacted by COVID-19, affecting their ability to deliver programs and services,” said Tyler Brown, RDN Chair. “The Board is pleased to award these grants to help the recipient organizations continue to contribute to the wellbeing of our communities.”

The grants were awarded through two funding streams: Community Grants and Oceanside Services Recreation Grants. Community grants assist registered non-profit organizations to provide social programs and services that serve a local community or provide a regional benefit. Oceanside Services Recreation Grants provide funds to organizations requesting financial assistance to offer recreation programs, special events or projects which benefit specific communities or the District as a whole. There are two categories in the recreation stream: youth specific (11-18 years) and community (all ages). The funding was allocated in each stream as follows:

Community Grants: $69,250 total awarded

  • Recipients include: Nanoose Community Services, Oceanside Hospice Society, Nanaimo Association for Community Living, Parksville Seniors Activity and Drop-In Centre, Take a Hike Foundation, Coastal Invasive Species Committee Society and the Ecoforestry Institute Society.

Oceanside Recreation Services Youth Grants: $13,191 total awarded

  • Recipients include: Kwalikum Secondary School, Oceanside Track and Field Club, Salish Storm Hockey Association and Sources Community Resource Centre.
