NANAIMO – The Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation (NEDC) Board of Directors announced November 24 that it had appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Board announced that John Hankins would take over as CEO as of January 4, 2016. Hankins replaces the former CEO Sasha Angus who left the position to pursue other business interests.
“We are very excited about working with John, and feel that his blend of private sector and economic development experience will make him a valuable asset for the community” says Andre Sullivan, NEDC Board Chair. “We are pleased such a strong candidate has chosen to join NEDC.”
An extensive search using an outside recruiting firm was conducted. Hankins stood out as an exceptional candidate with extensive economic development and private sector experience. He spent five years (2007 – 2012) as Vice President of Calgary Economic Development (CED). Since his time with the CED, Hankins has operated a successful international business consulting company, servicing companies seeking new markets both in Canada and abroad. Beyond his economic and business development positions, Hankins has an impressive resume of professional experience, including such titles as Leader of Supply Chain Management, Global Marketing Manager, and more.
“I am very excited to be joining NEDC and Tourism Nanaimo to work collectively with our partners to realize many opportunities for the city of Nanaimo” said Hankins. “I was attracted to this position as the board and team of NEDC have a real can-do attitude, and the city and regional district of Nanaimo has such a great energy and envious quality of life.”
