Procter Group Continues Expansion, Adding Chemainus And Errington Locations

NANAIMO – Wayne Procter Group has expanded again, this time adding the Willow Street Café in Chemainus to its portfolio. Recently, the group took over the Riot Brewing space in Chemainus and reopened it as Serious Brewing. That comes after their recent opening of a new store in Errington, called Serious Coffee Plus.

Seair Seaplanes is adding a new Vancouver to Victoria route, with 30-minute direct daily flights between Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver to the Inner Harbour in Victoria.

A 69 unit multi-family townhouse project at 4670 Laguna Way has received a development permit. The project, designed by Paramorph Architecture, will include 1,750 o 2,400 square foot units in 15 buildings at the intersection of Glen Oaks Drive and Ambience Drive.

Indigenous Consultant Michelle Corfield has been recognized as being a trailblazer in the cannabis industry.

Nanaimo Clippers have some new faces on their staff, including assistant coach Henry Acres and Evan Richardson, a Nanaimo Minor Hockey product who most recently was a skills development coach at North Shore Winter Club.

Mrs. Riches restaurant has announced it was closing. The long-time institution claims that it’s monstrous K2 Mountain Burger, which includes two pounds of beef and assorted other ingredients, has never been conquered in its “eat in one hour and it’s free” offer.

Nanaimo’s new Porsche car dealership opened at the end of August at the corner of the Island Highway and Rutherford Road. It is owned by the Gain Group. Construction of the project was undertaken by SupErb Construction, owned by Chris Erb, who is a former president of the Canadian Home Builders Association of B.C.

PFD (Performing Fabrics & Dancewear) has a new location at 141 Bastion Street.

Best Value Pharmacy is opening soon in the former 7-Eleven location at the corner of Townsite Road and Terminal Avenue.

IWCD is proud to note it has started construction on Parkedge Manor, a new five-storey, 57,910 sq. ft. seniors housing development near Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. It is a BC Housing project that includes 66 one and two bedroom units for BC Housing, and follows their successful delivery of Sunfield Manor in Phase 1. IWCD is also busy building the new Nanaimo Nissan dealership just north of Country Club Centre on the Island Highway. The 21,000 square foot building will include a 10-bay service shop and 4 wash/detail bays, as well as an underground parkade.

Congratulations to CARSTAR Terminal Autobody upon celebrating its 45th year in business. It was founded in 1979 by Al Descoteau as Terminal Autobody in Nanaimo, and moved to Parksville, and they joined the CARSTAR network in 2071.

The Port of Nanaimo signed a sister port agreement with Kaohsiung in Taiwan at the Association of Pacific Ports convention held at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre recently. Chair Donna Hais signed the document on behalf of the Port.

La Costa Restaurant held an opening night event at its new restaurant at 611 Oyster Bay Road, in the Oyster Bay Marina in Ladysmith. It is essentially a floating restaurant and offers Italian food.

Differential Building Group has proposed consolidating four lots on Haliburton Street that would result in 79 living units as well as one space for commercial. The five-storey mixed studio development will have 48 one bedroom and 18 two bedroom suites as well as 13 studio apartments. The lots are 102, 108, 112 and 118 Haliburton.

Atlas Engineered Products continues to build, as it acquired Penn-Truss MFG Inc., Atlas’ 10th manufacturing facility and its first in Saskatchewan. Purchase price was $3.8 million.

Lantzville council has been presented with a mixed-use concept on land between the Island Highway and Superior Road that could accommodate big box stores, retail and commercial units, as well as light industrial usage. If approved, the project, on the Gee property, which is 25.6 hectares, would have a 5-10 year build-out with three phases.

Ballenas Housing Society has pitched a series of four low-rise apartment complexes at 55, 65, 69 and 73 Prideaux Street that will consist of 70 one-bedroom units, 17 two-bedrooms and 29 studio apartments.

A 34-unit townhouse development is being proposed for 3397 Tunnah Road. P. Square Engineering and Construction Ltd. is seeking to have the .7 hectare property between Tunnah Road and Uplands Drive rezoned.

VMAC Global Technologies Inc. has been recognized as the winner in the “Best Employee-Owned Fiduciary Board” category in the “Canada’s Best Private Boards” program, with the award being handed out at an awards banquet in Toronto on November 4.

Mini Mall Storage Nanaimo at 1530 Harold Road has signed on to be a U-Haul neighborhood dealer.

A two building, six-storey, 211-unit residential unit project is proposed by Midway Gateway for the intersection of Northfield and Boxwood Roads. 69 units of row housing are looking for approval from the city near the Rutherford Road and Linley Valley Drive intersection. Rutherford Crestview Developments is the proponent.

Coastal Community Credit Union will be a commercial anchor tenant in District’s Harris Quarter development in north Nanaimo. The mixed-use development includes 8,000 square feet of commercial space and a five-storey, 85-unit rental residential apartment building. Coastal will be relocating its Hammond Bay branch to the new site.

The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance has a new Board of Directors, led by Janet Bonaguro of ThinkSpace Performance Inc. Chair Elect is Brad McRae of Western Forest Products and Past Chair is Dr. Nicole Vaugeois of Vancouver Island University, with Caroline Read of the Port of Nanaimo as Treasurer.
