Nanaimo Businesses Urged To Pay 2016 License Fees

NANAIMO – Nanaimo City Hall mailed local businesses their 2016 Business License Invoices during the last week of November. For businesses wanting to operate in the city next year the license fees must be paid by December 31.

“The requirement for Business Licenses assist in ensuring that municipal land use regulations, building and fire codes, health regulations and all other relevant community safety requirements are adhered to by business operators,” explained Nelda Richardson the city’s Manager, Development Support Services & Business Licensing.

For businesses that have not received their 2016 invoice; businesses that have relocated; or for businesses no longer operating are asked to notify the Licensing Office as soon as possible by email at licencing@nanaimo.ca or in person at the Service & Resource Centre, 411 Dunsmuir Street.

Key Points:

  • Unpaid 2016 Business License fees are due December 31, 2015. Businesses will not be issued their annual 2016 City of Nanaimo Business License until the fee is received.
  • All Business License accounts with outstanding fees are subject to a fine pursuant to “Business License Bylaw 1998 No. 5351”.
  • A Business License is not issued until the annual fees are paid.
