COURTENAY – MNP LLP has announced that Thorburn Guinan, a Courtenay-based chartered professional accounting firm, will merge with MNP, effective February 1, 2017.
“MNP has been serving the Comox Valley since 2004 and we have been looking for a like-minded firms to build on our strategic plans for growth in in the region for some time,” said James Byrne, Regional Managing Partner for MNP’s Vancouver Island and Northern B.C. regions. “The economy on Vancouver Island in general, and the Comox Valley in particular, has been making a slow but steady recovery since the recession started in 2009.
“Although traditional industries like forestry are still economic drivers in the region, there has been more development in hospitality and tourism, agriculture and agri-food and the technology sector, making the Comox Valley one of the fastest growing rural communities in BC. As the economy of the Comox Valley grows, so do the needs of the business community and we recognize that both the region and our firms have an opportunity to grow together.”
Thorburn Guinan is a full service accounting firm in downtown Courtenay, operated by two partners – Janice Thorburn and Karen Guinan.
“As the marketplace evolves and our client needs become more complex, we believe becoming part of a national firm with a local client service philosophy and greater breadth and depth of services and resources will serve our clients well,” says Guinan. “We truly believe coming together will strengthen and deepen our existing leadership and offer our clients access to business advice specifically tailored to their businesses and industries so they can stay competitive and profitable.”
Janice Thorburn, Partner, Thorburn Guinan, added what appealed to her about MNP was not only the fact the firm has been around for almost 60 years serving a diverse range of clients, but that MNP has also been recognized as one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada by the AON Hewitt for nine straight years.
“MNP has an organizational culture and values founded on a deep commitment to people,” she says. “This makes it a great place to work and do business, where a healthy balance between home and work life are at the core of how business is run. Our team is truly excited to be a part of the MNP family.”
