NANAIMO – Milestone Equipment Contracting Inc. is committed to providing women in construction with opportunities while acknowledging their dedication and contributions within the civil construction industry.
Milestone Equipment Contracting was founded by President Josh Fayerman in 2005, and the Director of Corporate Operations Justine Davidson says the company “actively continues to provide an equal opportunity for women and educational support to ensure their continued progression.”
Christiane Howard-Squire, a Junior Foreman with Milestone, notes “I feel fortunate to be involved with an organization that embraces and values the many talents of young women in the construction industry. Being a mature woman in a male-dominated industry has created many boundaries for me, yet I can now watch with pride a younger generation of females showcase their abilities in the industry. Having recently received a promotion into a leadership position, it’s a pleasure to work with and be a part of the development of these women.”
Jessica Conn, an Equipment Operator, shares that “Milestone has been very supportive since I joined the team. From my first interview, I knew I would be happy working for them. Management has helped me achieve the skills I have today. My co-workers have been supportive and helpful along my journey with Milestone.”
Financial Controller Melissa Cristobal says “We frequently bring in work experience students from the heavy equipment operator program at Vancouver Island University students. They come to us so eager, and the women especially have been incredibly impressive and very highly skilled. We are always happy to be able to extend offers of employment to these new female operators.”
Justine and Melissa joined Milestone over six years ago. Their positions on the team are a testament to the commitment the company has to ensuring female representation at all levels. Milestone actively promotes equal opportunities for women and provides ongoing training to allow for growth and advancement.
“It’s giving others opportunities to thrive and progress, businesses can find success,” Justine says. “I can honestly say, the women within our company make me so proud and I am blown away every day by their abilities, dedication, hard work, and care. Unfortunately, women within the construction industry still feel we have something to prove, so watch out because we are a force to be reckoned with!!!” It’s not surprising that Milestone has grown and expects steady growth for years to come, something Justine believes is because of their care, integrity, and leadership.
“We dig deep – not just literally. Everyone on our team has great tenacity and is ready to help get the job done” she states. “We are committed to our principles of build, learn, lead, and grow. Recognizing that while our primary focus is construction, we value continual learning, leadership, and personal development.”
“We understand the importance of remaining open-minded and learning from our experiences as we strive to be leaders in our industry and community.”
