NANAIMO – The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) will host the annual Green Building Series on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29. The Series will kick off with a one-day training course on Passive House Design and Construction on October 28 at Oliver Woods Community Centre in Nanaimo.
This course will provide participants with a fundamental understanding of the elements of Passive House Design and is suitable for homeowners, developers, realtors, designers and planners. Learning credits are available for architects, planners and building inspectors.
“This series will open the door to some of the region’s most innovative and environmentally-friendly homes,” said RDN Chairperson Bill Veenhof. “Our Board is proud to support initiatives like this – initiatives that contribute to a healthy environment, healthy communities and economic development, all of which are priorities in the RDN Strategic Plan.”
Residents can learn how to save money on their next construction or renovation project by making their property more energy efficient and environmentally-friendly. The RDN will provide information on its Green Building Incentives Program and rebates that are available to residents in the RDN’s electoral areas and the District of Lantzville.
On Saturday, October 29, Open Houses will be hosted in the Qualicum Bay area. The homes will showcase a range of projects including energy retrofits, rainwater harvesting and new home construction. Homeowners and building experts will be available on-site to share their experience and knowledge.
Complete event details are available on the RDN website www.rdngetinvolved.ca, under ‘Attend an Event’. Residents and businesses within the RDN are eligible for a discounted rate of $50 for the workshop. Residents outside of the RDN can still attend at the regular price of $100. The Open Houses are free. To register for the Passive House Workshop and Green Building Open Houses, please call 888.828.2069.
